    SQ5 Magnuson Supercharger (Comming Soon!)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright guys, so I'm a power hungry guy on cars. Ever since i got my SQ5 about a month and a half ago i have been on this awesome forum about 50 times a day lol, mainly reading. Ok so i quickly realized that our cars max out at stage 2 at like 450ish horsepower. Ok that lead me to my next question, STAGE 3?? So after much research, i found this:

    http://www.magnusonproducts.com/p-14...er-system.aspx

This is a supercharger from Magnuson, which has been tuned by apr. For the S4/S5 engine, the 8/8.5. Which is the same engine we have. So i decided to ask Magnuson will this fit our SQ5/Q5's?? They said yes with some minor adjustments, and a few SQ5's do have this supercharger. Here is their reply:

Yes the Audi S4/S5 3.0TFSI supercharger system will also work on the Audi SQ5! For more product information please just check out our website on the following link:
    http://www.magnusonproducts.com/p-14...er-system.aspx

To make the system work with an SQ5 some minor modifications to the installation kit is required, like shortening the silicone intake hose, adjusting the reservoir bracket and lengthening some ¾” (19mm) rubber coolant hose... so nothing difficult, and has been a few times before by our dealers.

Ok so this was nice and all but then i asked well why not make a kit just for SQ5/Q5 models and save us the trouble of doing all these minor adjustments? Here is the reply:

Yes we plan to make a dedicated installation kit for the Q5 and SQ5 owners, we unfortunately haven’t had time to yet sorry. Non-the-less there are several SQ5’s in the USA running our TVS1740 upgrade.

Keep an eye on our social media and website!

Sooooo. Looks like those of us with some extra cash, (not me) can look forward to upgrading this badboy into our SQ5's. Because I'm dying to see what kind of gains we will see with this and of course a proper tune!

Ohh and as a side note: I also contacted APR about some stuff, they told me that they are working on an upgraded intercooler for our cars as well! Maybe someone can make some fuel injectors upgraded and pretty soon i hope to see some VERY high HP SQ5's on this forum!!

Thanks for reading guys!! let me know what you think!

This was an "inside joke" if you will.

I hate to be the guy who has to bring bad news, but this kit might unofficially be the biggest tuning disappointment of all time. After all the hype over the last few years, the numbers released are marginally higher than stage 2 on race gas, especially with the kit at such a steep price.

Tuners wont release dyno numbers or even 1/4 mile times after being asked by dozens of members and it spiraled out of control fast.

    Past:

    - B7 avant, 3.0t swapped
    - B8 S4, Stage 2+
    - B6 S4, not stock
    - B5 S4 Clone, built motor, 2871r

True, it was a Marketing disaster. As numerous people have posted, there are some very real limitations in the cooling system to support a larger blower. It's promising to hear they're working on an upgraded intercooler, it seems to be a little late to the party.

Eurocode did post a 10.9 sec. quarter-mile on their Magnusson equipped S4, so the results are promising with more development, hopefully.

The cost equation is not to be missed either, now you have a $9k supercharger plus whatever an upgraded intercooler costs. Instead you can max out a Stage 2+, upgraded cooling, dual pulley, E85 blend for far cheaper and get closer, or even better than what Stage 3 is now. Also, for the SQ5 our transmission is going to be the limiting factor, Stage 2 is already nearing the torque limit and nobody has release a TCU tune or even hinted at one.

There's a few mad scientists out there playing with Twin Charging, but that has the same cooling limitations...heat is the biggest enemy.

Please don't waste your money on this. It's a total joke at this point.

That being said, APR is supposedly working on a more aggressive file with a smaller pulley that may produce better results in the future. Still though, the TVS1740 is not that much more efficient than the stock supercharger at high boost so I think we will always be disappointed.

Yea i kinda figured as much, hopefully the SQ5 platform advances more in performance mods. I just want them to make a way to get a SQ5 with 550+ hp at least. The more the merrier. But yea from what i have seen the upgraded supercharger is marginally better than a stage 2 with some tweaks. A bit sad, considering a 9k price tag is super high. Well then ill keep dreaming for now, hopefully in the future more performance mods come out so we can push the limits of these cars. While I too am not that excited for the supercharger, just curious maybe it had potential when combined with other things. But i am quite interested in the upgraded intercooler APR is making, hope to hear from them soon.

I would never waste 9k+ install and tune, for such a small increase in power. Just my .2cents.

This is akin to the ko4 upgrade for 1.8t, except at a 10k pice point. Just be patient, something better will come along.
