    Squeaking at idle

So, my mother owns an '08 A4 2.0t with 70,000 miles on it. Unlike the two Audis I've owned, her car is only dealer maintained.

She called me to try and figure out what's wrong with the car. The problem is that its developed a squeaking noise coming from the engine at idle. It's consistent and fades in and out from the sound of it. Drives fine though. I'm thinking it's the serpentine belt or accessory belt, something along those lines. I personally don't think it's desperate, but the Audi dealer isn't that close and she's planning on taking it in in the next couple months or so. Is this something that should be tended to immediately? Keep in mind that she won't let me tinker with it

    Thanks!

Nope, it's been in the mid 60's all week and it's still been happening.

Haha, she's not a car person so if I did do that, she wouldn't even notice. She's replacing it with an AR next year, which I will definitely be messing with.

Cold starts means when the engine was cooled down and then started up, i.e. starting the car first thing in the morning.

Well, even after driving for a while the noise still goes on.

For me it was the timing belt tensioner. They start to squeak when they are getting old. Im surprised no one has mentioned that yet.

Now that I think of it, the interval is 75k so it's probably worth doing. Either way, this thing has been reliable to a fault for her.

    Thanks for the suggestion!
