Recommend someone to repair cracked leather/Vinal seat

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi

My driver seat is starting to show some wear. I think it's the way i sit or get out of the car because it happened on my BMW too only it got a lot worse over time. I'm not sure if it is leather or vinyl, but the car is a 2010 a4. I want to get it repaired before it gets worse.

Does anyone know of a good place in Kitchener/Cambridge/Guelph/Milton/Oakville/Mississauga area that can fix this?

    Thanks,
    Jay

    ^------- this.

I tried a guy that fixed this stuff and he warned me that he couldn't guarantee it. The issue isn't really with the outer surface but the layer underneath that's supposed to hold everything together. Once you got an area that's cracked, it's pretty well game over as the whole area is weakened and they really can't patch it from underneath. The vinyl in the BMW's the worst based on his experience.

I was hoping for some solutions here. I have a 1/2" gap where the stitching has pulled away in the bottom cushion of the driver's seat.

You could always give fibrenew a call - they do leather, plastic and vinyl repair.

This is the before and after, but as mentioned, it started to crack again a year or so later back in 2010... maybe their repair process has improved.

Thank You, I hear you all that it is difficult to make a long term fix. I'm just hoping that because it is pretty minor and pretty new it might be possible.

I think that if you look closely (try the passenger front seat as well) at the inner and outer bolsters you will see the texture/grain of the outer bolsters matches the centre seating surface which means they are leather. The inner bolsters are vinyl and the grain is close but not exact. That's what they are on my sister-in-law's 2009 Q5.

I believe Audi made this change starting with the B8's due to cracking issues with the vinyl outer bolsters on the B7's. Of course, they wouldn't spend the extra dollar to make the inner bolsters leather as well.

I actually recovered the seat bottom in my 911 myself and it wasnt too bad . I took mine to an upholstery shop and he made me new seat bottoms. Very expensive though but its an appreciating asset right now so I kinda had too.

It ended up looking pretty nice.

It's pricey but you can buy a new lower seat cover: https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B8_A4...over/ES517380/

Thanks, the prob with that option is that it is 100% leatherette, and because it is not OEM, I think I would have to replace both the driver and the passenger so they match. $900 seems like a lot, I got a estimate from fibernew and they said ~$140. It seem's like a lot too, especially if it will happen again in a year like it did to Tanner.

I thought this was more of a common problem, I was hoping there was something that i could do that would be more permanent without spending $1000
