Bad throttle response in cold weather ""searched and couldn't find anything similar""

    Hey all,

I've been dealing with a boost leak for about a month now after my intercooler install but I have finally rectified the issue with all new couplings. Drove the car yesterday when it was +1 here in Ontario and car was running really good. This morning it was -20 and I pre-heated my car for roughly 5-10 minutes before taking off. While I was driving, the car would just boost around 2500 rpm and it would just accelerate fairly quickly with my foot barely on the pedal. Once the car was up to temp the issue seemed to leave slowly. I was wondering if this could be a problem with spark plugs or anything else? I do not have a boost gauge so that doesn't help but I was wondering if someone else has had this issue and what could the problem be?

    Thanks

Do you have access to Vag-Com? Do some logs measuring blocks 115 and 118.

I don't have the ross-tech. I have a shitty version off ebay but it still works. Do I do these logs while parked or do I have to be rolling?

Went for a drive on my lunch. Ruled out that Map sensor is getting a bad connection "got a CEL" since it is stuck in-between the frame and pipe, at the same time while I was driving another coupling decided to pop off I haven't gone 2 days this whole winter without a problem with this car. I'm starting to wonder if I should just give up or set it on fire lol

Regarding your hose coupling issues.. Aqua-net hair spray has helped me out a bit getting hoses on easily and sealing up nicely w/ no leaks. Sure it's not ideal but it works.

You start from 3rd gear and go WOT(Wide Open Throttle). Make sure you do it in an area where you don't have stop lights and cars everywhere.

I've done that for the other coupling that used to slide off and it did help. I'll have to apply some to this one as well. I'm becoming a pro at removing the bumper, 8 minutes to remove... don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing lol

Alright I'll throw my car back together and have to give this a go. Where in the Vag-Com do I access these measuring blocks? Definitely going to have to make sure there's no one around. Cops here jump on you as soon as they get the chance.

I haven't had the chance to log my car since it's not running really well. The car idles perfectly but on WOT in bogs and then boost comes on and as soon as I let off the gas there's a big backfire. Would this be the map sensor acting up? Is there a way I can test the connector on the harness with my multimeter?

Under certain atmospheric conditions it is possible for icing to develop in the throttle body at low engine loads and speeds from the water vapor in the blow-by gasses from the crankcase ventilation system. TB icing is uncommon with our A4s, but it can happen.

Audi advises to avoid warming up the engine before driving. Driving off immediately after start up is recommended.

Replace the worm screw hose clamps with T-bolt clamps to secure the intake/charge air plumbing couplers. Clean the coupling ID and pipe OD with acetone before tightening the clamps.

Thanks diagnosticator, What you're telling me about the ice and water vapor is starting to get me thinking. When placing my charge pipe back on last night I did notice abit of oil/water residue in the pipe. I'm thinking now with a small leak, condensation created this water and now affecting the reading on my map causing it to surge when accelerating. I'm running a boost leak test tonight so I will find out if there's any leaks and seal them up and hopefully this will help rectify my issue. I`m currently running T-Bolt clamps on all the fittings and they had still the nerve to slip off. I realised that the couplings I got with the front mount aren't very good so I had to order new couplings.

    Thanks again for the info

Fixed! I pulled my map sensor out and brought it inside. I noticed there was ice on the actual sensor So I just let it melt onto a paper towel and blew out the excess water ti'll there was none left. I also noticed some residue on the part the gets the readings so I cleaned it with a Q-tip and also cleaned my MAF. Car runs much better today so now its a waiting game for warmer weather!

Thanks to those who gave some input on trying to help me out, I really appreciate it!
