Tiptronic shifter warm while driving -Is this normal?

My new to me 05' Allroad 2.7T Tiptronic shifter stalk and surrounding area (metal/aluminum bits) seems to get warm to very warm while driving (more so hwy speeds cruising 75-80MPH). Is this considered normal or is it a symptom of an underlying issue?
Temps in TX are coolish recently (50's-80's) and the mentioned areas are not warm from direct sunlight exposure prior to driving. Shifting seems smooth and within normal limits as far as I can tell.
Please let me know if I am overreacting or if I have reason to worry.

It could be normal but, I would check to see if the heat shields are in place or missing
