EPL Stage 2 install issue

The GB thread has been closed so I started a new one. I wanted to see if anyone else had any issues flashing with EPL? I flashed Stage 1 and TCU fine, but now my Stage 2 keeps failing to connect to the remote host. I've talked to Tony several times (and he is still helpful, this isn't a complaint or bash thread), I'm just wondering if there is anyone else who has had issues and was able to resolve them. Tony says he can see all my files on his end fine, and they come up on the flashloader, but fail. I'm hoping this is something computer related that one of you guys might be able to figure out.

FWIW I am Windows 10, firewall disabled and antivirus disabled. The weird thing is I was able to flash TCU and Stage 1 with both the firewall and antivirus on. I've tried more than one wifi and over cellular hotspot from the phone.

I don't know what to do anymore, not being able to flash to Stage 2 is a concern, but my real concern is I can't flash back to stock.

Any input is appreciated.

I thought I remember seeing that someone had to uninstall the tcu the retried with the ecu and it worked. Not sure if it helps but I do remember seeing some with issues.

I'll try just about anything at this point. I'll see what Tony has to say tomorrow about this as well.

It could be a Windows 10 security feature or update that causing the issue... Have you tried restoring your computer back to an earlier date or tried with Windows 7?

You mentioned that when you flashed Stage1 you had firewall and antivirus enabled, yet when you attempted to flash Stage2 they were both disabled. This is a long shot, but did you try leaving the firewall and antivirus enabled when attempting to flash Stage2? I don't really know much about computers but I'm trying to eliminate variables.

Hello - I'll gladly remote in tomorrow and take a look. We have made no changes to the flash loader since November, so the system operates identical to when you flashed previous. Have you added any additional software? The errors you are seeing are generally a firewall/internet connectivity issue. What anti virus do you have? Has it updated recently?

Your Windows is not virtualized is it? I had the issue running Windows in a virtual environment. VCDS would work fine. EPL tunes would show up fine. EPL would begin the download, installed the flash, but then it would crap out about 25% way through. It would only work when I borrowed a Dell Laptop and tried from there. I'll end up buying a $100 Windows Pro tablet for just this (well, and VCDS I guess).

My guess would be it is a Windows 10 issue since you are the first person I have seen that has tried to flash using Windows 10. Make sure that you are also disabling Windows Defender as well. Also how are you turning the Firewall off? If you disable the Windows Firewall service it essentially goes into a block state. You need to set the profile you are connected to (Domain, Public, or Private) to off with the Firewall Service still running. You can also run the following command from an elevated command prompt to turn off the advanced firewall for all profiles: netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state off

When you are finished run netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state on to turn the firewall back on.

My first flash was with 10 and worked without issue.

I tried that before disabling the firewall and antivirus.

I don't know what virtualized means, if this doesn't work can someone help with the tablet I need? A link to best buy or newegg or something?

Tried this from administrator prompt, still got error.

I will have Tony remote administrate today and hopefully he will find something. Thanks for all the ideas so far. Again I just want to make clear that Tony and EPL are trying everything they can think of too, this thread is NOT a knock on EPL, I'm just hoping for more ideas here.

Whats the protocol being used for the download? FTP, https, also what port is being used? Can you telnet to the remote host? Can you ping that host? Tried a tracert to the host?

The failure to connect tells me one of two things, either the account is not authorized to have access to the host or just that its not connecting due to some sort of bad configuration. If the initial connection was established and then failed that could be another issue but based on what you've said already I'd try the steps I outlined earlier.

you might confuse him with all this technical info .. would been better for him to install wire shark and look for errors while connecting

Delete the entire program from the computer then re download the flash program. And drivers

I was able to find the same tablet Tony uses for $75. Going that route because this issue just isn't worth the time Tony or I have been spending on it. I'm also concerned that it would pop up again in the future so I think this is the best choice.
