    Fair Price for Wheel Refinishing?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have curb rash and scratches on a set of wheels I'd want to refinish. The best price I have gotten for an estimate is $500. What is the usual price for a set of four wheels?

Any recommendations for a shop in the DC area?

That's a good price. In the DC area Ye Olde Wheel Shop used to have a good rep...not sure if that's still the case. For comparison I had wheels for my 350z repaired - $150/wheel for painting, $200 to fix the two that were out of round, and $100 for mounting/balancing new tires. A bit pricey if you ask me but they did a decent job.

    Cheers,
    NM

I just dropped off 3 rims for repairs. $175CAD x 2 + $150 CAD x 1 for repairs, $500CAD total. The two for $175/ea were pretty badly mangled by the previous owner; 90% of the circumference of the rim had curb rash. If I understood the process properly they're going to build up material then lathe it flush.

I thought this was on the high end, but it sounds like I didn't pay too much.

I'd just buy new wheels at that cost if needing all 4 done.
New wheels become summer shoes. Old wheels become winter boots.

It's $200 per rim here in sac for a legit shop to dismount tires, make the wheel perfect, powdercoat it any color you want and then remount/balance tires.

I had 4 wheels powder coated for $520. Included pickup at house, dismount tires, fix one wheel with minor rash, powdercoat 4 wheels, mount, balance and return to the house. They did an awesome job.

$150 a wheel here but the dude is surgical. He was able to match the exact finish of my custom hand brushed AG's. When he was done I couldn't even tell which of the 4 wheels had the rash.

A few years ago, I had some wheels fixed (on the car) at Topline. They were cheaper than some shop I went to in San Jose & did an excellant job. They used to be very near Rector Audi, but are now about 1.7miles away.

The company we use (Alloy Artists) usually charges $125 for a full refinish, but that also includes minor straightening and whatnot. $500 for a set seems fair - $700 seems like a lot

Thanks for the info nickskeeta. I'll stop by sometime next week and have them give me a quote.

How long did it take for them to perform the repairs? Did you have to drop the car/wheels off with them or did they do it while you waited?

I had 4 stripped, blasted, powder coated, and tires mounted/balanced for $350. Downside to that is the silver powder coat isn't going to look OEM. I was going black anyway so it didn't matter.

I will post more pics once I mount them for spring but the overall finish is better than OEM.

I know people love to TELL people about a deal they found but before I bought FWP's refinished stockers I searched EVERYWHERE for a place that would true and refinish my stock wheels for cheap. There was a place that offered to do it for $100/wheel but all the online reviews were nightmarish. Another place said no more than $150/wheel but all of their reviews were horrible too. In the end I opted to buy another set of stockers instead of paying to have my OEM's fixed but, if I'd gone the other route, I'd have expected to pay at least $800 for the kind of quality work a shop would stand behind. There are always exceptions, but usually you get what you pay for.
