96 a4 base climate control issues

Ok so my 96 had a bad heater control where it would light up but not show me fan speed or temperature. I went to the you pull it yesterday and picked one up from a 97 a4 Quattro. Now I get all visuals and lights except when I was installing it I saw the rear fog light switch flickering, it stopped so I just tested everything. I started the car and rpm was really low, battery light was flickering and all. And when I tried to get codes from the climate control it just kept repeating numbers (see video below). Anyway after I changed the unit out, there is a crazy lack of power unless I step on the pedal all the way down and only pulling out or after I shift, after a moment or two the power picks back up and like I said until I shift everything is good. Do I have to sync the unit with my car? If so how? Or does the fact that it's a Quattro unit and not a base unit have anything to do with the car acting all weird?

Theres There's no issue with swapping those CC units out. I swapped in a unit from a B4 90 and it worked well. Did you try swapping the old one back in?

Yea just did, it still does the same thing soit must be something else,i have an x tool scanner I ordered from amazon and it gave me an abs code and a couple o2 sensors that I already knew about. It had a misfire code before but not any more and now it sounds like it starts on 6 cylinders but the, died down to 2 and then finally shuts off...

Do you have any issues with your dash gauges like your speedometer and tachometer at all? I had issues with my climate control acting weird for years.. tried lots of things and nothing worked. Finally swapped out the cluster and everything worked great again.

Oh the graces lol. You could try changing the cluster. Also, if your o2 sensors are shit, you're car is going to run like shit. Change them, is not hard

I don't think o2 sensors would make it idle roughly to the point where it stalls out though, might be the cluster though because now when I turn the key to the on position, car not running, I hear buzzing coming from it for about 30 seconds and then short buzzes for the next like 2 minutes, 10 minutes later, the short buzzes come back and then go away

I figured out the issue. Major vacuum leak at the TB smh. My car is running as it should be minus bad gas mileage due to o2 sensors, will be doing that next as soon as I have some time. Only problem now is with the 97 ccu, every now and then it turns itself on. Doesn't happen too often so I'm not concerned, but I can see how it can get annoying lol. Thanks for the help though, to everybody!

96 and 97 climate control units are different and the whole 96 climate control set up is different than any other B5 so if you're having issues its probably because of the 97 climate control, is the part number the same? the 96 ones should have a white plastic back and the 97+ should be all black, I've got a 96 climate control from a part out in my garage in good working shape for sale.

No. The B4 unit and the stock unit I pulled from my 96 were both black backings. Part numbers are the same, save for the different letter revisions

hmm all the 96 style ones I've seen had a white rear backing, maybe just a manufacturing difference then, the B4 and 96 B5 modules would be the same, 97 was when they made the major changes and they revised it again in 98 for 98-99.0 cars.

No more big problems, original problems ended up being completely unrelated to the ccu. Currently I have one from a 97 with the black housing installed, my original has a white housing, how much for the ccu though?
