Bought BMW 550i while engine pull is in process

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am in the middle of doing an engine pull. And had the choice of spending thousands in parts to make it perfect again..

Instead. I am going to fix/ upgrade the broken guide. I am putting a new chain in, and JHM adjusters.

Here's pics of the new ride.

    Has 148k 6 speed loaded. I paid 11k

    They were asking 15k!!

Nice car, and you go back to your root anyway, right (per your screen name)?

    And have never been happier

I drove that for a little while and have wanted to buy that same gen for a while now. That is a dream to drive with sports package. It is unreal how a saloon that big can drive and handle herself so well. It will out maneuver many that are twice as expensive and still put a smile on your face every day. Words cannot describe that ride. Congrats!
Switched to Tesla and have never been happier. No more shady mechanic bills and excuses - oil top off before an oil change is normal or dealing with outdated forums that have image size limitations. And no more dealing with vendors that do not provide horsepower numbers but sell you random things by labeling them as performance parts. No more dealing with the Audi dealership and having to buy custom Audi specific tools. Wow. I can't believe I lived through all of this. Money pit.

Yeah, more and more people are finding out about them and then there is the matter of 6-MT cars slowly dissipating away.. A good 6-MT that you can daily drive with family or in a "spirited" way basically.. Sport package during those years was dialed in just right. No electronic or self adjusting suspension was needed and it just worked without much maintenance headaches.

Thank you guys!! It's night and day as far as the drive quality.

But I would say the s4 seems a tad bit faster. Maybe because it's lighter? Or awd.

I'm going to use the s4 in the winter months. Hopefully with doing the jhm adjusters, along with updated main guide that breaks + the four hydraulic tensioners. I'll be happy to get a few winters out of it.

Not totally. I'll have the s4 for winter. Just not doing headgaskets and all the stuff I should be on the engine pull.

Nice ride! I hope the valley pan coolant issue doesn't arise for you. It's one of those $1 parts that can fail and cause about $3k of work to replace it...

Yes I took it to my friend who is a pro with these. He said timing covers have been done, along with water pump, valve covers, and probably much more. .

He said the coolant pipe is common. But as long as I keep up with everything. I should be OK

Nice BMW, my co-worker is looking at the same thing, and is constantly sending me ads for review :)

Im going to cross pollinate threads, but you mentioned selling your S in another thread. If you dont mind me asking, why are you considering selling after dumping all that money into it? I see this happen often where people off load their S relatively soon after doing the guides. If I ever come down to doing the guides, its not just a money commitment, but also an extended ownership commitment.

I have put way to much into the s4 already. So either way I'm losing money of course. But I guess I'd rather sell it now at 150k with timing. Opposed to 200k with timing.

Car also got new clutch and flywheel 2k ago.

Burns about 1q every oil change. Give or take.

Your car smells of rich mahogany, and has many leatherbound books.

Nono referring to guys e91 Touring; I'm assuming he's referring to the 3-series unless I'm mistakened.

I'm in the process of exploring the world of BMWs, currently looking at e70 xDrive50i's with the M sport package. I've been researching and see they're more maintenance than a B6 and a B5 combined!

I was actually on the wall between the 08-10 550i M sport or the S4. Eventually went with the S4 as the 550i M sports were a bit more expensive and very very scarce to find. Both have impressive V8s.. I really wanted the 550i because that thing looks so damn beautiful. How's the 550i treating you? You're not worried about the higher mileage?

Schnazzy. Fix that front bumper cover gap before the whole thing goes.
