Fixing chipped paint, blemishes, ugly wheels.

Hey all! I was curious as to what everyone's expert opinions are on fixing little paint chips and splotches on our lovely cars as well as ugly wheels. I bought my '08 A4 a year ago, and my perfectionist tendencies have finally sunk in.

I swear, this is not my neglect! Please stop hating me :P It was a good deal, and I figured I could fix horrible ugliness when I had time (which turned out to be like a year later?). Any suggestions? I would like to just have a weekend where I say "screw you, PhD" and make sweet sweet noises with my car (of the variety "$&#@ you stupid *insert name of tool*, why aren't you making my car look better") :)

I'm with you.. I have see. Some guys do some wonderful touch up work on vehicles rock chips. Just never found someone here in Florida!

I have found that if you call some wheel refinishers you can get them to come out and they fill in scratches and spray the wheel to look like new for around 175 or so.. Some less some more.

Honestly for those wheels? Check with some of the better used car lots around town. The ones here (Minneapolis) have a guy that comes with his pickup, refinishes all four wheels on site, then drives away for about $300. He does great work and they look brand new when he's done. There have to be some guys like that in Atlanta that make the rounds of the used car lots.

I've seen a few DIY guides on refinishing wheels and may want to give it a shot. I have the equipment, and it seems like the only thing beyond that (besides chemicals/paint) is a lot of patience! I feel like I should find a crappy pair of used rims to test my methods on, though, before doing anything to my own car. Anyone know of places in general to get dirt cheap rims?

I did my own center caps. That chrome plastic ring snaps off from the back. Then you can tape up the grey part that seems to stay in good shape, sand down the silver and repaint. But unless you're pretty good, wheels are tough cause of all the angles you have to hit.
