What is the big deal with CPO? You all seem to make a big fuss about it.

I'm in the UK - I presume it means Certified Pre Owned? Here we just call it Approved Used but I've never seen a big deal made about it in the UK.

Let me know what I'm missing - I'm foreign.

CPO (certified pre owned) extends warranty to 6 yrs from in service date or 100K miles, whichever comes first. The warranty here in the US is not the same as the original warranty - for example the MMI coverage does not include navigation or stereo. So, you would need to read the actual CPO coverage. If the mileage is less than 10K, it's not that much more to get Audi pure protection platinum vehicle service contract that is an exclusionary plan - meaning that only the items listed in the contract are not covered. Some feel the need for warranty coverage but others would rather self insure and set money aside to cover any needed repairs.

"Foreign" is definitely offensive because it could lump someone in with all the "illegal aliens". Oh, sorry, I must need another trip to the reeducation center because I still think we actually have immigration laws in this country.

As someone who travelled to the US recently, you do have some very strict immigration laws/controls & also some that are quite odd.

I testing info about what CPO actually get your. Thanks.

In the UK an approved used car from Audi usually comes with 1 year warranty - just an extension of the new car warranty. Usually this demands a much higher price. Personally I would rather get an aftermarket warranty as it means I can take the car to a garage of my choice. Think we all know that often techs at the dealers have no clue what they are doing.

We definitely do have some strange immigration laws here, but I won't get this sent to the Chatterbox ;-)

You can also find third-party warranties in the US, but CPO through Audi seems to be less of a hassle.

CPO is a less comprehensive warranty extension. the big deal is that is if the engine or transmission or anything major on the drivetrain gives out we have coverage for very expensive issues. For some, like myself, we'd rather pay up front to ensure coverage on things that would be very costly as opposed to paying less up front but having the unknown future costs. I'ts essentially a variant of insurance if you think about it. I'll probably never use it, but I feel more comfortable doing it this way.

Since I've been a child its been drilled into me that empty vessels make the most noise. THAT MAN IS A MORON.

As someone who typically leans Republican I'm embarrassed that he's reduced the political arena to a night time show of the apprentice. He's an ID10T because we allow it. 74% of all illegal immigrants LEGALLY enter the US - ON PLANES. How is a wall going to fix that? I've never lost a job to an illegal immigrant because I am a highly educated, well schooled individual. The US has had 9 yrs of net 0 immigration - meaning just about the same number of people have left that have stayed. How does a wall help anything?

Since he's been running the county has been so focused on this guy that we've lost focus on REAL issues. I'm embarrassed for our country.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

Regarding CPO, is the 6th year extended warranty calculated based on manufacture date or date you buy vehicle?

The former. But miles are extended from 50 to 100k. I do ~25k per year, so that was pretty attractive.

Also for a CPO car, all services must be performed and up to date, tires/brakes must meet minimum spec.

No CPO is from in service date (purchase date by first owner )

Well, it is technically an extension of the original warranty, but gives you effective 6-year/100k coverage from the in service date.

"If there is remaining coverage from the Audi New Vehicle Limited Warranty at the time of Certified pre-owned purchase, the Audi New Vehicle Limited Warranty provides coverage (on the Certified pre-owned vehicle) until its expiration, either 4 years from the original in-service date or up to 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. When the Audi New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires, the Audi Certified pre-owned Limited Warranty becomes effective and provides coverage for a period of 2 years or up to 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Combined, the warranties may, but will not necessarily, provide coverage for up to 6 years or 100,000 miles."

The clock/odometer start ticking from the in-service date, not when the car was certified/(re)purchased.

Correct it is from the purchase date by the original purchaser (not the cpo purchase date). Not manufacture date either.
