How can I unlock my car without the key fob?

Recently I bought a 2002 S4 and it only came with one key and no fob. I wasnt able to lock the drivers door until i used the key to lock the trunk. Then all the doors locked. But when I went to unlock the car the key wouldnt unlock the door. So I went through the trunk to unlock the car but the alarm went off and I couldnt start the car. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. Is there anyway I can lock and unlock the car without this happening?

pull the door panel off and check for missing/broken linkage originating from the lock/latch mechanism.

Does the key turn, but just not unlock the door or not even turn (as if you inserted the wrong key)

Also there used to be a "mod" to disable the manual linkage as a means of theft protection. I cant seem to find it right now, but that might help you to know what to inspect and look for.

Sounds like a problem in the driver's door. Start digging. I don't even bother with the remote anymore, as my car always forgets it 3 days after programming.

Sounds like the lock itself is broken (this is a TT lock but i would guuess the S4 uses a similar design), either that or the slot on the door lock module is stripped out, but my money would be on the lock cylinder either one would keep it from unlocking manually or electronically:
