Blown Shocks - What would you do?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
2010 S4, Lowered on KW HAS suspension. Stock shocks (front) are blown. Looking to replace with KW V1 coilover system. ADS is still functioning, exploring my options.

1 Not a fan of the harsh ride on coils
2 Live in Canada, winter is harsh
3 Would replace stock shocks BUT the HAS system will blow them up again
    4 Cost is an issue
5 Would like to keep ADS if possible

    Tks for the input guys!

I'm actually fairly surprised the shocks went when using the HAS system. mind me asking how many miles you've had them on for, and how low you went? also, unrelated, did you have any noise with HAS system that some people have mentioned?

regarding the systems if you want full coilovers the KW Variant 3 has gotten good praise on multiple platforms including this one. If you want to go a bit more comfortable, people have been very happy with the Bilstein cup kit (eibach sorings and bilstein shocks). and of course the bilstein PSS10. These are the three that i'd consider if I was in your shoes. the cup kit being the cheapest (since you mentioned cost)

I hear air on the B8's is less harsh than coils but more bouncy, takes up some trunk space, and is more pricey.

The PSS10's are very smooth over decent roads, but you can definitely feel the messed up roads (not enough to bother me though). If you soften the PSS10's up too much, I hear they get a little floaty.

If you really don't like how coils ride it seems like replacing the factory ADS shocks is your best option if you want to retain ADS (keeping the HAS springs or not).

You can also go with a set of non-ADS shocks from Bilstien or Koni.

If you go with anything other than ADS, you'll need the KW ADS delete kit to prevent codes.

Tks for the replies. I'm currently at 113,000kms. No noises I have heard of from the HAS system. The previous owner mentioned he had a few. I do sit pretty low, almost a finger gap only at every tire. 👍🏼

After dealing with the whole mess with KW over the spring length in the rears and seeing how their "customer service" treated people and the way they denied everything over and over I would never buy another KW product. They do drive well, I'll give them that much.

bounce has everything to do with the dampers and not the bags. Bags are gonna be expensive, OP you should go with the same HAS setup, first see if they cover the warranty (if it happened recently, it should be).

Once mine die, I'm switching to KW V3s and the canceller. Had them on my 911 and loved the control and compliance of the dampers.

There was a thread on here that had some good info on the kW ddc kit. It sounds like the complete package to me, comfier than stock on the softest setting and as hard as you need it to be at the push of a button, only draw back is the price and the work needed to fit everything.
