    Upgraded brakes supporting mods

I'm due to have a set of AP calipers and 390mm discs fitted in the coming weeks. I remember reading somewhere about an upgrade to the servo or something using a part off the sq5 but can't find it anywhere? Can someone confirm what it is that can be upgraded, wether it's worth the effort and if possible the part number etc. I've ordered some rs5 backing plates to aid cooling etc and would like to get everything out of the way in one hit.

I'd imagine it would be the boosters. Thats gonna give the volume to move fluid to the calipers.

I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

It was the brake booster! will changing it give more of a factory brake feel?

I personally have not done it but from what I've read it does. I know that the RS5 has a bigger booster which in turn provides a bigger clamping force through the pistons which provides consistence through the pedal.

    What setup are you running?

How do you find the pedal feel compared to when you was stock?

If you're purchasing a proper BBK that has been specifically designed for the vehicle, IMHO you shouldn't need to upgrade anything else. The piston, caliper and rotor size should all be matched to the specific vehicle along with the size of the caliper bore to complement the rest of the OEM system and maximize the performance of the BBK. The pedal should feel better and you should be able to better modulate the brakes with a proper BBK. Since the B8-8.5 S4 and A4's are fitted with the electronic rear parking brake, upgrading the rear is limited without losing it so the front kit will already be a bit more biased than the rear compared to factory. Changing other items that weren't accounted for could negatively affect the brake bias and balance of the vehicle. AP Racing has a good reputation along with Brembo and StopTech. Changing the brake booster may make the brakes really touchy and give you that "on off" pedal feel.

I have a Brembo BBK I need to get installed instead of sitting on my but playing on the Internet. LOL

Let us know what you decide and post pics!

Thanks for the reply, the kit I've gone for is designed specifically for the s4 by vagbremtechnic and consists of AP calipers and 390mm j hook AP discs up front, j hooked rears, stainless lines all round and ds2500 pads all round. I had a cayenne kit on my b6 and that seemed to lose a lot of the feel but increased the stopping power. I think I'll leave as is and see how it feels first

Let me know what you think of the J-Hook rotors. I was going to go with the newer Brembo rotors but stuck with the slotted. I've got cross drilled on my M3.
