Cracks on radiator cover after 55k-mile service performed.

    Group,

So I found an unpleasant surprise after I got home from having the 55k mile service performed on the car. Though the cracks are small, it bothers me that someone would not be careful enough to not over-torque these corner screws. Are these covers prone to cracking, or was this an oversight on the tech's part?

Anyone know where I can source one of these at a decent price?

    Thanks.

Try ECS or online oem Audi parts.

Take it back to the shop where it was serviced and make them replace it.

That's the plan, but just in case they decide to say "it was already that way"...you know how dealers work.

I've got a 2015 but on mine those are plastic push pins, are they all screws on b8? Based on your photos those cracks look pretty damn fresh to me. White plastic fracture surface, fibers still bridging the gap, etc. to anyone used to seeing freshly expanded plastic those are pretty classic signs. If it had been there for a while you'd expect dirt would have gotten in between there and the fracture surfaces would be dirty and the little stretched fibers gone. Good luck, hopefully they replace that cover for you, it would drive my OCD bonkers.

I agree, they are fresh, and I noticed them right away when I popped the hood after I got home. I should know better than to drive away without checking first. The service was performed yesterday, but I called today to notify them and also sent these pictures in for Monday.

I doubt you'll have any problems having them replace it. Worse case scenario, they swap yours for one of the used ones on the lot majority of people would never notice or care when buying a used car.

You have no idea how the only Audi dealer here operates (or has operated in the past)...let's hope you're right! I noticed because I know my engine bay. My usual thought process is: if that's what they do with the things I can see, I don't want to imagine the things that I can't see at first sight.

True, I don't. If that's the case that sucks; hope it works out for you. I'm used to good service here; a while back I noticed a scratch on my wheel 2 days later on my old A5. Called and left my service advisor a voicemail. 10 minutes later I got a call from the manager with a huge apology and offer to pick up the car with a loaner in tow and repair or replace the wheel if it couldn't be repaired. Hopefully your shop turns around to have service like that. I understand shit happens sometimes...it's how they deal with it after that can make or break the relationship.

Oh the irony...just so you have an idea...my TTRS ownership ended not long after they scratched a wheel, did not want to take responsibility for it, and my relationship with them went downhill from there. I told myself I would never own an Audi again as long as I live in this city...then they got rid of the guy that was running the service department at the time. Things have changed and in my opinion have gotten a lot better...this is the first time something breaks under their care, so let's see how they react to the situation. Hoping for the best.
