Does anyone know how to do this? Is there any risk in doing it?

My transmission seems to be acting strange. I was going about 30mph today and floored it. It kicked down to 2nd at about 4,000rpms and felt like the clutch was slipping or cutting power until it shifted into 3rd. I'm thinking I may want to do the adaption if it might help

Did you hit the kick down button under the pedal? If so it's kinda an emergency acceleration mode and it does slip for a few

Yes I did. And the transmission overall just feels quite clunky at times and seems like it's losing its bite when accelerating from a stop. I'm curious if the adaptation will have any effect

Sure it wasn't just Traction Control Kicking in? I have a problem with TC kicking in, light flashes and it will bog the car at times, especially at anything below 45mph. I was concerned at first too but I can easily repeat the issue. Once I put the car in sport mode (TC Button 1 time) no issues. Full power fun!

If you run a scan with your vag com then clear all dtcs even if there aren't any. I heard that resets some adaptations.

I'll say I try and go in and look at codes and clear them once a quarter. The car learns how you drive and when you live in more metro area, that's a lot of stop and go traffic. I feel like after clearing the codes, the car's much more responsive and has a lot more giddy up. Just by erasing that learned behavior, I feel like it really makes a difference. After clearing the codes, I try and make it a point to flog on her a bit to get the new behavior a lot more aggressive.

Pretty sure it isn't tc, I never see the light flash if it is

So I ran 2 of the options in auto trans>basic settings> Then clutch engagement adaptation and distance calibration. The car seems to shift much smoother with less oddities. It did make a number of strange sounds and jerks like it was running through the gears and lightly slipping the clutch.

I will have to try this, I hate when you floor it and it slips the clutch.

That's normal behavior unfortunately it's just trying to find the proper gear I always shift down to the proper gear then take off.

I just reset the DSG adaptions on my car, as described in this thread and I'm pretty pleased with the results.

"Faults" (aka, "minor irritants"): felt like lazy shifting (almost like a slush box). 4th to 5th RPMS would wobble a bit, especially if backing off the throttle and (something I've seen on AZ posted a few times) going WOT from 40mph+ ( 6th or 7th) gear in "D" and getting 3rd there was a really noticeable delay (easily a second) before the power actually came on and the car accelerated.

-lazy shifting much improved, snappy again
-4th to 5th Jury is out. Still does it on a manual shift but seems gone if I let the box do its own thing (I only ever use D and S, so I don't care)
-and the big win: the acceleration delay when WOT to 3rd has gone. Car picks up great.

'box had no stored faults before adaption or after test drive. Fluid had to be <60°C or it wouldn't complete, as noted above.
