You mean if I took the 4 rings off the back, people from behind would still recognize it as an Audi, or VW?

I have note a significant shift in drivers opinions just by observing the cars that I drive by on the road. 10-15 yrs ago , you saw a lot of BMWs and MBs on the road. And they were the "IT"car. Audis were not plentiful. Now, at least here in SE PA, I see many more Audis. The better reliability , overall styling , performance and interiors has not been lost on the public. I understand Audi sells more cars than MB and BMW in Germany . It may have taken a while, but the public has taken notice. and Audis have gotten better. Too bad that they are going the way of MB and eliminating all the manual transmissions in North America. IMHO, that will eventually cause me to buy something else

The S4 is the best bang-for-the-buck sporty daily driver. Not that I am biased

    You're not alone with this.

The Porsche thread had me thinking of getting a manual pre-owned Cayman S (981) and a beater pickup. My wife would have probably been ok with it (when we get a house), until I remembered that the Cayman only has two seats. DOH!

a cayman s with same equipment will cost $30 thousand more, only fraction of second faster, less space, not AWD, TWO seats, and way more expensive to keep up. If you thought audi service is expensive wait until you get your bill from Porsche service .oli change $350!

2014 low-mileage Cayman S starts in mid $50ks, but it is still an apples-to-oranges comparison to the S4.

Haha definitely factor in 2 seater, as all the best flavors of Porsche come in that config. As for an upgrade, I'm on a wait and see if Audi decides to bring the RS4 stateside (even though not 6MT), otherwise near term a manual M3/M4 maybe next on the cards and a 911 upgrade (993,996TT,997TT) is my long term.

Until then, I am just going to enjoy my S4 and bask in the awesomeness compared to my K04'd beater b5 :)

You should have gone to this morning's meetup; someone just ditched their S5 for a 2014 Cayman S.

Yeah, we will see if the RS4 makes it here, but it will still be a heavy sedan. I think my ideal garage (when we get one) is sports car/beater for me, and a nice SUV for my wife.

I told my wife that my son and I will go out in the Cayman S, and hopefully we have a daughter so the girls can go have fun shopping

Funny how enthusiast minds think alike. Cayman S was for me the natural progression from my B8.5 S4. I have them both now and use my '13 S4 as a daily driver and '14 Cayman S for fun/track and occasionally drive to work. They are both great cars. My butt dyno says they are similar in straight line speed, but the Cayman S handling makes the S4 feel like a bus in comparison. But if I could only choose one it would have to be the S4 because it's so well rounded and practical.

Sports car and a beater is the way to go, and SUV for the wife makes absolute sense. My boss (wife) wants out of her C300 and into an SUV as well. Initially into an S/Q5 but now that the next gen will be hecho en mexico I'm leading towards other alternatives. Maybe the Macan will be my first swing at a P-Car :)

Actually, my S4 will be the beater by the time I get around to buying a sports car ha! A WRX hatchback blew by me on the highway today; that and the Cayman S would be my beater/nice combo.

My wife really wanted a Q5 when we were shopping for a replacement for my B6 A4. We had one as a loaner when the S4 was getting serviced and she no longer has any interest in the Q5 after its "meh" driving experience. The Cayenne was a lot more fun than the Q5 if you are looking in that price range.

My mother might trade in her CLS550 on a Macan.
