    Key Fob Struggles

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've searched this topic for 3 days and have tried at least 5 different programming methods. I have a B6 with 3 buttons and what seems like no led to let you know its actually working. I've replaced batteries, the biggest issue is I have only one key fob thats not working and a valet key. It's pretty beat up and I'm starting to wonder if it's even putting out a signal (refuse to pay $100 for a key fob tester). I do have a VAG cable and VAG COM lite (free trial). On every programming method when I get to a step when I hit unlock & should get some kind of feedback from the car I get nothing. I posted here because I noticed someone posted a guide in this subforum a while back. I'm guessing I'll have to get another fob but after getting it cut & programmed to the car will I have an immobilizer issue with having no working existing fob & having a new one?

You can transfer the immobilizer chip into new fob if the old one went bad. Its pretty easy and as long as you are careful you wont damage it. Theres a diy somewhere if you google b7 keyfob on b6 it should come up

Also you can transfer the cut metal part easily. So get a used fob from ebay and transfer immo chip and metal beard.

But have you tried to resync your current keyfob correctly? Sometimrs for no reason they get out of sync with the car. Procedure should be on here somewhere.

You can replace just the remote part and the chip stays with the key part. I bought one here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121870927636...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
The only method for remote learning I found that worked was this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_DrT8W-_uQ
The procedure in the video differs slightly from the write up on the Ross-Tech site, which didn't work for me.
Audi isn't the only place you can get new keys. I had a locksmith come to me and cut and program 2 keys for $150. The blanks were cheap ones from ebay. The immobilizer chips worked but the remotes didn't. That's why I ended up buying the one in the link.

So you can use vagcom to make immobilizer chip work if its a blank set from eBay?

No, immobilizer chip needs to be programmed by audi or someone who has right tools to do it. But you can remove the chip from old key fob and transfer it to new keyfob. Its a little capsule that sits in the corner of keyfob

Yup I googled & found that. Thanx guys. I'll transfer over the immobilizer & program one of the 2 keys I'm getting from eBay. Then transfer the blade, I'll have to get the 2nd key's immobilizer coded & cut by audi or a locksmith then I can program the 2nd key. Right?

I ordered mine from Audi, then you just have to get it programmed to your car. Fob was 80 programming was about 50.

I bought a B7 remote from an A6, moved the immo chip from my valet key into it. Then a local locksmith installed a new blade. Used VCDS to pair it with the car. One tip, some fingernail polish remover will loosen up the glue around the immo chip. Also, when you buy a used OE remote, be sure to check the serial numbers printed on it, they need to match yours for the frequency to match your car.

I just looked at the eBay keys I bought and it says....
Numbers on the remote: 4D0-837-231-E or 4D0-837-231-P

Mine is 4D0-837-231-E, so I should be good then?
