Alu Optic Stone Guards/Side Blades. Yay or Nay?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys. Placed an order for a 2016 S5 about 3 weeks ago. It's a Brilliant Black Coupe. I ticked the box for the Alu Optic Stone Guards as they seemed to tie in well with the mirrors and window trim. Just wondering what are yor guys' thoughts on the side blades as they aren't a very popular option? Here are some pics I have gathered (many from AZ members).

Hey that top car looks familiar. My opinion is biased but I love the look of my alu-optic blades. I get so many compliments on them all the time. Like you said it truly compliments the chrome trim on the car and mirror caps.

I have the blades on my Estoril Blue which is a dark color and I much prefer it to body color. It adds a little more character.

Hahah. I took a look at that album you sent me a few weeks ago. Really liking the setup with the wheels, grill, side blades, and all. Looks amazing!

Thanks for the input man. I really enjoy the look of the stone guards on the darker colors (Black, Blue, and Grey) too. Thanks again!

I think they look nice. I would not pay to swap over to them though if the car didn't already have em... Most OEM stuff suits these cars...

I like the look of alu optic in the photos. Haven't run across any in real life yet so guessing there are not a lot of them around? Kind of surprised I haven't seen LordMagnet anywhere yet as we live in neighboring towns and both visit Excelerate for mods.

Love the look of that, especially on black. Any idea on what it what take to add these to an all-black B8?

You can purchase them for around $450 here: http://audi.bernardiparts.com/Audi-A...impackage.aspxI believe they go on top of the existing body colored stone guards, but don't know how they are attached.
Another route is to go with vinyl. I saw a thread with someone using vinyl to replicate the look and it looked amazing. Only $45 too. Vinyl method thread: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ards-vinyl-mod

I don't mind it but I wish the front and rear of the car had similar colored inserts available. Just looks unfinished to have it between the wheels but nowhere else when looking at the car's side profile.

I think that those who like the blackout look and dark colored wheels will not appreciate them. My third S4 (black) came with the Alu optic package. I was not a big fan prior, but I really like the look now. I also think it gives the illusion of the car being longer. Visually, it gives the impression that the bottom of the side blade is the bottom of the car, which it is not. It goes well with silver wheels and bright metal trim. Different stroke for different folks. Go for it if it fits your style.

Very true. I don't like the Alu Optic package combined with the Black Optics package for that reason. Thanks for your opinion!

I absolutely love the black-optic package, but the alu-optic package adds a uniqueness for those of us who didn't get the black optic package.

Sadly, I don't get to drive my S5 very often, I've put about 3,000 miles on it since I picked it up last June. I'll be sure to change that when it warms up.

I was just at Excelerate this past week having a short shifter kit and stainless steel clutch line / clutch delay valve delete installed.

Yup I love the Alu Optics! Looks excellent on S5. I've been secretly hoping someone posts a set for sale as if like to add them to my S4. Seems they're pretty rare though. Especially used.

I think it looks pretty cool. At first glance or certain angles it almost looks like glare/reflection off very shiny paint. If you decide later that you don't like them, you can paint or vinyl over them to match the car.

I have them on my car.. which is pretty dumb for whomever ordered my car because the car is a Black Optic car with Alu Optic Guards.. would have been better without the BO

Yeah it's a matter of taste, the blackout guys hate them but hey. I have them on my Deep Sea Blue, ordered the car from the factory that way and I'm glad I did.

How does the clutch feel now? I am highly considering having this done, as I've had slip problems with this clutch that I haven't had with any other manual I've driven. Also, what short shifter kit did you purchase and does it feel better than the rubbery stock shifter?

Also, you need to drive it more! I bought my car in November and have put almost 4000 miles on it. Too much awesomeness to lay dormant!

I have a friend with a twin car to mine and I like them. Looks good on black that still has the chrome/aluminum non-black optics package. I know some don't like them but I kinda do. I've even thought about adding the aftermarket one linked to in this thread. For $45 or so it's worth a try. Haven't decided yet. Just a little something to keep the sides interesting.

Doug, that is an odd combination, but the car looks amazing regardless! I hope I get to see it driving around locally one of these days.

For Oem look with chrome window trim and alu mirrors it ties together nice. I went to the darkside and blacked everything out. Wrapped the alu guards gloss and window trim gloss black.

I am not a fan of the colored blade guard. I prefer it body color, but that's just me.

As to your Sepang, that blacked out version looks soooo much better - great choice imo.

I haven't installed the 034 "stage 2" transmission mount yet. But with the transmission and rear diff inserts, and I just had Excelerate install the eurocode short shifter, and ups ss clutch line (which deleted the clutch delay valve) last week, the transmission is feeling great.
