Audi 4L Q7 Sideview Mirror Assembly Removal...

I purchased a set of OEM V12 Mirror Housings to replace the stock body color units my vehicle came with from the factory. The shop I use is backlogged and could not get around to it. I am guessing this is something I could probably do myself with the proper instruction but unfortunately I cannot find any instructions. Anyone on here have instructions or a link or video?

I cannot help you on this, but wanted to comment on the lack of DIYs for the Q7 in general. I tried finding one for the replacement of the fog lights on a '15 and could not. After a few minutes it was obvious that the wheel well liner had to be pulled back to do this, but still.......not a lot of DIYs out there.

I thought it was easier to pop the grill round the foglight then undo the torx bolt and then the foglight was loose and far easier to work on.

don't think that works as of MY2015. Not the same setup.

I had a moment to tackle this myself and it took about fifteen minutes per side. I think it took longer to find the proper T10 Torx screwdriver than it did to do the swap.

For the older Audi / VAG guys you may have a bit of Deja Vu doing this because it is exactly the same as the B5/B6/B7/B8 S4/RS4.

Start on driver's side with both mirrors down and no power to the vehicle. Take pointer finger and push the right side in the upper top corner (1 o'clock position) and have it angled up. The opposite lower left corner should now be raised up a bit. Take one finger and slide it under the glass while the other hand holds the upper right corner with your thumb and with the left hand pry up the glass gently. There are two aluminum clips holding the mirror in place along with the a series of wires for anti-dazzle (dimming), heat, indicator and the lane assist. when unplugging the heat make note the black wire with the red strip clips onto the prong closest to the edge and the black wire goes on to the second prong (at least on my vehicle but make note of where they are on your own).

At this point you should now have the mirror in your hand and see the aluminum clips and motor. At this point i removed the clips to avoid damaging the housings but I do not believe they need to be removed. Route the wiring so it is not exposed or at risk of being caught on anything or damaging the housings.

I started dead center at the bottom of the housing and pried the painted portion up while holding the base (black portion) down and with a little bit of force it the clips were freed. At that point you see the tabs and how the housing needs to be lifted to be freed.

The indicator is attached to the housing. Use the T10 Torx bit that you used for the aluminum clips to remove the indicator. Make note of it's position and how it sits. Take the new housing and indicator and slide the indicator onto the groove that holds the indicator in place and make sure the tab slides into the cut-out on the outer portion of the housing. Tighten the Torx screw but do not over tighten.

If you have Side-Assist / Lane Assist you need to remove the indicator by pushing it outward towards you after you loosen the pressure fitted tab. Slide it into the new housing.

Take the housing and line it up with the assembly. Make sure the wires are routed properly and not in the way. Once you confirm there is clearance clip the housing back into the tabs, attach the aluminum clips (if you removed them), plug the mirror back in and rinse lather repeat on the other side.

If you are not careful you will crack or break the indicator. If you do the replacement pieces are Left Indicator: 4L0949101A & Right Indicator: 4L0949102A.

Below you can see the inside of the housing and all the areas I am referring to.

Take your time, be patient, if you rush you will find yourself having some costly mistakes. Proceed with caution. I am not responsible for any errors you make or damage(s) you incur.
