    1.8T clutch replacement

doing an engine swap and im obviously going to do a clutch while its out. What are the different options out there I can trust are good? This is not a mod car. Its all stock and probably will have a stage 1 tune, and a very slight chance of a k04 down the road. I found this clutch here that seems decent but I dont know much about clutches.

A place between here and there

That is the clutch most here would recommend for stock to bolt on power (not breaking 275-300chp). Good find on the cost

That's what I'm running on my B6 with the big injector tune. It's been great. I suggest ordering from ECS or EuropaParts. ECS is in Ohio and Europaparts is in Jersey so you'll have the parts really quick. Skip the eBay journey when there's trusted companies that supply the same kit and actually have customer service to call if something isn't right.

Recently did my clutch and this is what i went with. just broke it in recently and holds very nicely.
you should also get a new pilot bearing in there as well. did not come in the kit but very inexpensive

I am also running the Valeo kit. I thought I had 40k miles on it but today when I recorded some recent maintenance I realized that I now have almost 65k miles on the Valeo.

No complaints at all and it is still holding up just fine with the F21L.

OG, what pressure plate and disk are you running with your set up. I've been going back and forth between the ECS or JHM 240mm upgrades or staying with the DMFW or a Valeo. From the posts it seems likely that I'd get shuttering from the 240mm options. My old South Bend HD is starting to slip and the DMFW is making odd noises. I'm running APR 1+ with cat back and dual intercoolers. Was thinking going K04 or F21 in the near future. What's your recommendation.

The Valeo kit comes complete with a solid mass flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate and mounting hardware.

And you pose a very interesting question. I had been through two different Southbend clutches prior to the Valeo. The first one I had to replace immediately because of a stack height issue. The second one I really didn't like because of the extremely stiff Sachs SS pressure plate. Plus that one also had a stack height issue that I overcame by extending the slave cylinder rod. The reason I had to replace it was because it eventually bent the clutch fork making it unusable. No more Southbend clutches for me.

When I purchased the Valeo it was being advertised as a HD replacement for the OEM clutch and it was rated to 280 ft-lbs of torque. At the time I wasn't planning on going past my GIAC 1+ tuning so it looked perfect for my needs. It's interesting that now it is only advertised as a direct OEM replacement. No mention of it as a HD version.

Fast forward to my F21L installation and I was very concerned that I would be replacing the Valeo in short order. I now have 20K miles on it with the F21L (65K miles total) and so far it has performed admirably.

So to answer your question for a recommendation, I really don't know. I have been considering what I will go with in the event that the Valeo gives out. It's working fine now but I feel like I am probably pushing the limits of the clutch. If I have to replace it I would want to give myself a little more headroom.

The two I had in mine are the ECS and the JHM 240mm upgrades but I keep reading complaints with the chatter that comes with their lightweight flywheels. Definitely not something I would want to deal with. Too bad ECS or JHM don't have an option for a heavier single mass flywheel to go with their clutch kits.

I have been following Kevin C's conversion thread Clicky click® since it appears he is going for the same thing. Looking forward to his evaluation. Sorry I can't be of any more help but until I decide what I want to go with I can't give a recommendation based upon personal experience.

Thanks for the opinions OG. Kevin C's swap looks interesting, I'll follow it. I may go the Valeo conversion route based on price and the limits of a mild turbo upgrade. I still think Audi under designed the stock unit for the B6 Quattro drivetrain.
