Proper wiring of the adapter harness is all, really. I did just an AUX port on my first B7 initially, and that was OK, but I wanted a touchscreen headunit that had bluetooth, etc. I picked out a Pioneer Appradio3 and installed it myself using the Metra wiring harness, antenna adapter, and dash kit. That B7 had the Bose system and it worked fine, with no loss in sound quality. I went a step or two beyond that and integrated my phone with the radio so that I have full control of my phone through the touchscreen. What does that mean? It means I can watch Netflix (if I have good data connection), play music or movies that are on my phone, use Google Maps or Waze for navigation, make hotel reservations... anything I can do on my phone, I can do through the touchscreen of my headunit.
I sold the 2005.5 B7 A4 with Bose and bought a 2007 B7 A4 without Bose. My dashkit had cracked, so I spent the $$ and bought everything (again) from Enfig. Dash piece is much nicer looking, and it was all plug-n-play, which made installation quicker.
If you need to watch your budget, one of the add-on BT/AUX adapters mentioned will work fine. I paid $400 for the AppRadio3, $200-ish for all the Enfig parts, and another $100 for wiring and a Samsung wireless dongle to integrate my phone. $700 is not cheap, but for me, the cost was worth the gain in functionality. RNS-E will cost you more and get you a lot less IMO.
