    Help diagnose vibration.

Hi all, my car was recently hit during the snowstorm of 2016 while parked directly above the drivers side front fender. Nothing crazy just a 7 inch long dent and some deep scratches ($3000 in damages, no note!!!)Took it to the bodyshop (Audi certified) and noticed some vibration when driving and braking, and mentioned it to the shop . Fast forward 3 weeks and I get the car back, same thing. Body shop says car was aligned (true..drives straight). I'm thinking its brake judder but shop says they don't do brakes, and talk to insurance. I do a rebed of rotors (drive 60, slow to 20 repeat x 6). Brakes do feel better after than when I got it back, but vibration is still there while driving. It is really hard to notice driving less than 40mph, but if you go faster say to 70 there is definately a vibration coming from the drivers side wheel even on smooth roads, and when you brake it judders/shake/vibrates a little.

I took it to Audi and they say suspension looks fine, but that I need new rotors because they are blue colored and warped. I mentioned I tried to rebed the rotors and they say it causes more warping doing that. I declined the service to change all 4 pads and rotors, because honestly it wont solve the vibration when driving and the brakes feel good to me.
My next step is to wheel balance the fronts. Do you guys feel that will solve the issue? Would such a hit cause frame damage that is unseen? Suspension is fine according to Audi, should I get a second opinion. Thanks all. This whole thing is really frustrating as my car was just chilling there minding its own business when it got it. Also its a 2014 A4 with 13000 miles.

Edit to add: rims don't look bent.
Also is there a shop in NYC or Long Island that works on German cars for the most part. Don't really want to go back to Audi just to balance wheels, and don't want to go to your local jiffy lube either. Wait time last visit is at least 2.5 hours.

did the tire get hit in the original accident? if so maybe it bubbled or the rim was hit and it cracked inside where you cant see without removing the tire/removing whole wheel and examining the whole barrel very closely.

Vibration is the worst, because the diagnosis of the problem can be a wild goose chase...ive been through it as well.

Experienced the same issue as you, slight vibration in the 70-80 mph range and no visible damage to the wheels. Had all wheels road force balanced @ Firestone for $15/ wheel and this solved my problem.

Thanks for the replies. Rim and tire looks good on the outside no damage that I can see. So probably no damage on the inside, but I will check anyway.
Also what is road force balancing exactly compared to regular balancing? Is it something special that not all shops have it?

yes roadforce balancing takes into account the weight distribution when there is weight on the wheel from sitting on the road, hence the term "road force". its a more effective way to balance your wheels then when they just float the wheel on a spindle and balance the tire weight to the wheel weight.

Hunter makes the road force balancing machine and list their locations. http://www.hunter.com/gsp9700 I have found locally, VW and Jeep dealerships offer the Road Force balancing as standard for a great price. Every tire shop near me that had the machine was selling it as a $20 up charge per tire over their normal balancing price.

Thanks for all the comments. Quick update, road force balance the front tires...vibration while cruising still there, even though its slight. Rotate tires front to back...same.

I will add to the story on the OP. When I first drove the car 2 days after the accident (about to go to adjuster) the first thing I noticed was a grinding noise coming from the front left wheel. It went away after a few miles though. Could there be damage my rotors from side impact and is now causing vibrations at highway speeds? I read that warped rotors can cause vibrations even a subtle one. Here is a video of the damage, as you can see looks very minor, but I'm having all these issues that wasn't there before.

Honestly it sounds like your front rotors are warped and that will cause a front end vibration. I would get them replaced and go from there. If its vibrating during braking then its most likely your problem. Good luck
