    Another Symphony 2 -> 2+ upgrade thread

    So I most likely will be going through with this upgrade. I've read a lot about the radio reception being bad. However, I found this connector that looks like it should help.

    https://www.kufatec.de/shop/en/audi/...t-3-symphony-3

    I'll probably just get these two to be safe:
    1) http://www.euro-parts.us/store/index...&product_id=56 (selecting BOSE)
    2) http://www.euro-parts.us/store/index...&product_id=52

    I just want to confirm, my Symphony currently has BOSE on it. Will upgrading to the S2+ require anything different? It seems to enable BOSE is done by the coding of the unit seen below:

    Digit Description
    1 Country ID (0 = standard)
    2 Sound Coordination (0 = standard)
    3 Number of passive speakers
    0 = No passive speakers (Bose)
    1 = Front left (Bose with hands-free phone)
    2 = Fronts passive, rears active
    5 = Fronts passive, rears non-active
    4 Sound System
    0 = standard
    1 = Bose
    5 Radio Configuration
    1 = No CD changer
    3 = With CD changer
    5 = With secondary display
    7 = With CD changer and secondary display

    To enable Bose on an originally non Bose Sym II+, a jumper wire must be connected to ground in the quadlock connector. The only thing the coding for Bose does is turn on the "Bose" display when the HU is turned ON.

    The quadlock terminal to be connected to ground is the Blue connector, terminal number 5.

    That coding list is not correct for the Sym II+.

    Will that adapter increase the reception? Because I have the II+ and it gets absolutely shit reception, to the point where I want a different radio/better solution.

    unless you retrofit a B7 antenna system to match the phase/ Diversity setup the S2+ uses you're very likely stuck with it. I will tell you a couple things regarding the S2+ conversion;
    #1 I installed one in my old 03' Avant and reception was nearly non existent from day 1. I installed it at roughly the same time I did a B7 center console upgrade, never thought there could be any connection between the two. BUT! At some point later I was fiddling with something and when I unplugged the cigarette lighter/ power socket that the B7 console has up in the ashtray my radio reception improved instantly. I literally have no idea why, but I verified it, and I left it unplugged. The reception was still never superb, but it was improved.

    #2- I read a thread in a UK forum Audi forum where a person had claimed to have solved the reception issue by opening up the head unit and jumping the two antenna leads inside. He Claims that even the error code for not having one antenna functional went away.
    Again, no evidence of this; but another person replied to that particular solution saying he copied it and it worked. YMMV.

    It's a pretty good headunit, sounds amazing, OEM look and function- but at the end of the day if you want to have VERY good radio reception it's going to bother you.
