    2016 S3 Fog lights?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello all - I see our cars are apparently available with fog lights outside of the USA. Has anyone chased this down and added fog lights to their car in the USA? That lower section of the front end just screams for fog lights. Pictures, parts, what have you got?

BTW, I ordered my '16 Monsoon Gray S3 Prestige with 19" PP and red calipers and rear airbags on 12/19/15. I do not know what the heck is going on at the dealership as they originally told me 8-10 weeks for delivery and are now telling me it will not arrive until mid-April. Really? It takes almost 4 months to get a car? I have initiated an inquiry with the Audi Customer Experience Center and they are looking into this. I have never owned an Audi before but have owned about a dozen Porsche cars, several MBZ and BMW's. Several of those were orders and none of them went like this. If I really did not like the S3 I would walk away from the deal and buy something else. Really disappointed with Audi's handling of this order.

    Thanks, Michael

I'm potentially interested in fogs as well. Would love to know if anyone with a US spec car has added them and if so what all did you need to accomplish it?

I searched but wasn't able to find anything. I would also like to add fog lights – those empty cavities need to be filled :)

OK, so only two other guys are interested in adding fog lights to their S3? Come on, this has to be a pretty basic mod. Most cars I have owned that did not come with fog lights, where they were a factory option, were already wired for fog lights. Is it likely Audi had a different wiring harness for cars coming to the USA? Hope not. Would be nice if it was a plug 'n play deal.

I've always been keen on adding fogs at well but i'm in the same boat as you with regards to where to go as it doesn't seem like something anyone has done. As far as delivery time, I know that my one of my family members had custom ordered an RS7 (different car I know) but had to wait 3-4 months given how many custom orders were being placed to get one. It may very well be that there's a back order on how many people want one. Hopefully you get it soon!

I asked about fogs before but there didn't seem like enough people had the car yet and wanted this option. for those who have opened up the front, are there wires preinstalled for this option?

also I don't think there is wiring yet as where would the button be located at in the car? there are no open spaced to add a button near the light switch.

I thought I read that the wiring harness would need to be purchased and installed as well. Along with a new headlight switch.

yea that money and hassle is not worth it. especially since with the led headlights you get the adaptive lights.
just to drive around with your fogs because you think you look cooler- NOT worth it

would it still work with the led lights? cause the fog switch is already there and is being used by the in housing fog setup we get.

$400 and a few hours of work isn't worth it to both provide more function to your car but also set apart it's look? Seems like a pretty cheap and great mod to me.

its actually more around 600$ the part numbers he listed for the lower grilles are for an a3 and will not fit an s3 btw

    80 left fog insert
    80 right fog insert
    65 right fog
    65 left fog
    70 wire harness
    180 switch
    =540
    +tax
    =595
    +shipping
    = 620-650

im sure the s3 fog inserts will be more expensive too.

with the old b5 s4's we all wanted the euro no fog grilles. i wouldn't even pay 20 bucks for these fogs let alone 600

Those openings on the S3 aren't for fog lights, they are additional air intake funnels. So I just stopped being interested in retrofitting :)

the pricing seems fine to me. I would be willing to try it out.

but I found out that there is no direct installation part for the S3. the holes in the front are air inlets for some sort of i.c. and the parts mentioned wont work as someone else said it on another forum.

so ill pass on this mod. time to move on to another mod.

For me it has to be plug 'n play. If Audi does not make a kit to do the install, I won't do it. I don't want to create problems down the road. The RS3 grill swap comes to mind where some people with the front camera and parking sensors are apparently having their parking sensor alarms go off and their solution seems to be to just turn them off because they like the looks of the grill. That is not something I would consider.

I was looking to have fog lights installed also, so I talked to my salesman who told me that the slots were empty to provide better cooling for the brakes. While I too drive this thing like a maniac in perpetual "Dynamic" mode, I'm not sure when I'll be taking it to a track. Thoughts?

doesn't the pre face lift LED headlights offer foglight built in? my new Face lift s3 LED headlights have fog LED lamps in them toggled via the light switch front and rear fog lights as well.

I hate fog lights. having no fog lights is a much cleaner look IMO unless they are integrated in the headlights lol

Back from the dead for lack of a newer thread.

I have a US 2016 A3 8V Quattro sedan with the S-Line package. Mine has what appears to be honeycomb style inserts identical to those on the US S3 8V where fog lights are fitted to european S3 8V's. It also appears that our european brethren utilize Hella branded OEM parts H8 8V0941700D and H8 8V0941699D for fog lights in conjunction with the appropriate wiring harness, euro light switch and updated Vagcom programming. Appears to be a doable project with parts coming out to around $250 - $300. My honeycomb style inserts are blocked off and i do not observe any provisions for air flow through these inserts. It appears there is a seam in the plastic that would facilitate opening up (knocking out or cutting out) an opening in the insert to accommodate the above referenced OEM fog lights. I'm a little unclear on how they mount or whether additional parts are required for mounting.

I will be swapping out my damaged front grill to a badgeless gloss black honeycomb style mesh grill next month which will better match the S-Line honeycomb design inserts on the front of the car and the honeycomb design rear valance. Since i will need to take off the front bumper cover to swap out the grill, i thought it would also be an opportune time to install fog lights.

I did review the thread from the other forum that walks through the fog light install on the standard A3 8V front end but i have yet to find any threads for someone that has tackled this upgrade on an S3 8V or an A3 8V S-Line. Has anyone out there accomplished this now that there are more of these in circulation? Just checking before i attempt to go where no man (or woman) has gone before...

    Thanks,

    Mark

I am not sure if the fog lights are meant for the S3??

In Canada, if one doesn't opt for full LED headlamps, we get fog lights for both the standard A3 and the S-line A3. However, even without full LED headlights, the S3 does not get fog lights, unlike the A3 S-line. I suspect that space is an air intake funnel for the S3.

Anyways, why don't you try to source the required parts from some Canadian dealerships.

Me too. I'm torn between an OEM setup or wiring the fog lights directly to a toggle switch so i can run my high beams and fog lights at the same time. I travel a lot on rural roads at night and the extra illumination would be beneficial for helping to prevent collisions with suicidal deer.

Yes, ECS does, thanks for pointing that out.

Assuming these are Hella OEM foglights, https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...ht/8v0941700d/ that is a reasonable price. OEM replacement foglights available on EBay are slightly less but i"m not sure of the quality https://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-2-Cl...53.m1438.l2649. Personally, I'd rather purchase the OEM product from ECS rather than sourcing them from a Canadian Audi stealership and then having to deal with importing the product from that socialist state.

I am jealous that A3 owners north of the border can purchase their A3's with foglights, I suppose next they will be telling us they can also spec their A3's with remote starters and block heaters....

I suspect any brake venting performed by the fog light grill on an S3 is minimal at best and unless you are racing your S3 at the track, i doubt you would really need it. JMHO, your mileage may vary....

Not only that, from the very beginning in the pre-facelift days, our S-lines also get flat-bottom steering wheel with perforated leather.

BUT, we have to PAY A LOT MORE for it than our southern neighbors!

Decided to do this. Received my gloss black badgeless honeycomb mesh grill today. Just waiting on the Hella OEM fog lights, OEM light switch and wire harness to arrive from Europe and then i will perform the front-end facelift. Still pondering on ordering high lumen 6000K LED bulbs to replace the OEM H8 bulbs that are standard in the Hella OEM fog lights.

I'll be sourcing screws/bolts locally for mounting the fog lights and depending on what i find behind the fog light grill inserts on my S-Line, I may also need to order separate mounting brackets, or not.

    Hope that helps.

I cannot comment whether any of this is applicable to an A3 S3 8V with LED headlights.

    2016 S3 Fog lights?

    Lot of patience and trimming.

The diy link for the a3 is almost the same for the s3 except for the different fog lights.

Got the light switch ($87)and wiring harness ($35) from Kufatec.

Got both (left/right) fog lights on eBay for a total of $80 including shipping.

Didn’t take too many pics during the install but here’s a few:

All the pieces I trimmed off

With the air funnels from the factory grills removed, the lights fit in there perfectly

Had to make small brackets for the bottom mounting position for the foglights. I’ve see some s3 bumpers that had this mounting spot already but mine didn’t. The front sides of the brackets were painted black so they wouldn’t be noticeable through the grills.

Stock light switch left. New light switch with front fog button right

I did have pins 5 and 45 in my ECM so most others should as well

The fog lights did come with H8 bulbs but I decided to get some yellow LEDs on amazon for $25

    Hope this helps.

    James,

Excellent writeup. Nice improv on the brackets, looks very straightforward with easily attainable parts. I'm just waiting on the foglights and some daytime temps above freezing :-) Once things warm up i'll be doing the front grill, foglights and JB4. I'm curious to see how much "fitting" i will need to do with the foglights.

Any fitment issues with the LED replacements for the H8 bulbs? Which brand/model and lumen LED's did you go with? Would like to know how well they work out for you after you have done some night driving with them in both fog and non-fog conditions.

    Thanks,

    Mark
