I know this has been discussed already and i got the info necessary.

But a lot of the threads are as old as 2011, now i want to do this swap, who can i source and or buy most of the parts from?

Thanks. And any advancements in this swap?

... to name a few. Those places are not local to NY though, not sure if that matters. I know most will sell you the entire "kit" ready to go.

I bought my kit from Scotty at advanced automation because I want the peace of mind of a rebuilt manual done correctly. Be prepared for a long wait though.

I'm very new to this forum and I don't have permissions to start a thread. I've owned 3 Audi's and all have been C5 A6 variants. The previous were '99 2.8 & '03 3.0. Now I have more of what I've always wanted in a '01 4.2 with Sport Package.

I thought I'd post a reply to this thread as I've just converted my A6 4.2 Triptronic to a 6 speed manual from a '03 Audi Allroad. I bought the kit from Wolf Auto in Waverly, MN. I live in the Minneapolis market (great if not the best market in the country to own an Audi if I may say so) I had NUR Technik in Burnsville, MN do the install. David, the owner is a great guy to work with and he's got some very talented mechanics. The swap wasn't without a couple of hitches, mainly the ECU that had to be reprogramed to match the Euro S6 6spd so that the engine RPM's wouldn't hang betweens shifts and re-enabling the ABS/Traction control system.

I have one issue that I'd love some feedback on. Since I've done the swap, I've noticed two drawbacks. One of them I was aware of going into this, the other not so much. The first is the fact that the gearing is definitely taller and the final drive is a bit fast on the highway. At 70 mph the engine is running at about 3100 RPM's and the gas milage has suffered a fair amount. I'm aware of Advanced Automation and their TDI 6th gear options. I'm considering that, but I'm not certain how much that part runs and I'm thinking it's pretty pricey at about $700 or so. So cost vs benefit is a bit of a quandary for me there.
The other issue is the suspension with the fact that somewhere around 200 lbs. have been eliminated with the convention. Now the car feels very light on its feet and at highway speeds it feels almost unstable! When you do a side-to-side swerve or quick lane change the body feels very loose on the suspension. I've been giving some thought to doing a coil/over kit like the ST X Coil-over kit that I've seen mentioned before on this forum. It seems the best option for cost as the Bilstein is quite a bit higher than the ST option. More than double the price in fact!
Has anyone else done a similar suspension performance upgrade after the manual conversion swap? I'd be interested to hear some opinions on this topic and the 6th gear swap to lower the final gear for a more hwy friendly engine RPM.
    Thanks for any feedback.

Lets See. You did something. You probably shouldn't have used an Allroad transmission for the swap parts. When you say "taller" gearing, I think what you mean is shorter; meaning the gears are 'lower' and result in higher RPM per speed.
You're doing 3100 RPM @ 70mph, where the non-Allroad 01E trans results in roughly 2900 RPM @ 80mph in 6th gear. To correct the problem I'd say the easiest / cheapest route would be to simply get a Transmission from an A6 (or B5 S4) and swap it in.
Alternatively you can pull the transmission and have the gears swapped- I don't know what the result is if you leave the final drive/ front/ rear differentials as they are in an allroad transmission and just change the gears. I don't like the idea though.

Good job getting it that far! But.. it's a little more work to get it set up right.

Allroad trans is pretty much the worst trans to mate up to an s6 motor.

The Allroad trans ratios suck. If you swap transmission you will also have to change the rear diff as well.

They work better with the allroad's taller tires and a 2.7T torque curve. Best to keep an allroad trans in an allroad.

Forgive my noob question, but the swap doesn't require replacing any major wiring harnesses?

I for one am happy to not have allroad specific tranny in my car anymore. A6/S4 with TDI gearing up top and 4.11 final is my vote for allroad. Much less roving and I can reach 70mph in second gear and 130mph in 3rd . Makes some hilarious pulls possible.

My C4 revs about 3,800 at 80mph. Ha. But it has no mountain of torque to make that worthwhile.

Lol at that. C4's are very cool but not too fast. My 97 Avant was like that. We used to hit the A/C button when we had to get out of the way. It was like a little shot (15hp) of nitrous
