Lowering Springs - Calibrate MagRide dampers

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So there is a lot of discussion going on the S3 FB page about resetting/calibrating the mag-ride dampers after installing lowering springs and how this may impact the harsh/bouncy ride. The thoughts are that the dampers 'think' that they are in a compressed state after lowering and must be reset. Seems that only a dealer can do this via the VAG Diagnostics system.

In the Elsa repair manuals I have for the S3 it stipulated that after any removal of struts/springs the mag-ride needs resetting.
On vehicles with electronically controlled damping (Audi magnetic
ride), perform the function “Adapt the Control Position”
    with the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

VCDS cannot do it/or it needs an authorisation code which no one has (not 31564).

I was hoping there was a type of adjustment that can be made to adapt to the different spring rates of lowering springs. If there are TCU flashes, why can't the suspension controller be flashed/reprogrammed....

So asked 3 Audi dealerships now and all have replied that this calibration is only required if the shocks are replaced with new ones, not for change in springs. Give up! Need the VCDS authorisation code :(

installing H&R super sport springs on my S3 next week, I'll let you know what my tech says (work at a dealer) about the mag ride adaption and if it is necessary when replacing springs or only if the shocks are replaced. From what he said is that since it has to be disconnected to change the front springs that we will need to reset the mag ride system. Will confirm next week when mine go in.

I have had my H&R Sport springs on my mag ride S3 for about 2 months and 2000 miles now. Absolutely love them. Zero bounciness like others have described and every mode is better than factory. I did nothing except install them and drive the car. No issues whatsoever and nothing to calibrate. I do not feel the need to do so either after having them installed for this long.
