Just buy a set. The usual suspects, Autozone, Advance and Oreilly doesn't rent much less sell them in-store . I bought a set on Ebay years ago and now it's just part of the tool chest.

Autozone has them. Come in a 3 pack set of sockets. I think Advanced Auto sells the same kit.

If you call autozone or advanced, you may have to describe the triple squares as 12 points.

some auto parts stores have them, but best to order them online in a kit. as a kit online they're much cheaper and fit much nicer than the low quality stuff autoparts stores sell. i order a schwaben kit from amazon.

unlikely to borrow. Its such a specific tool that they dont rent them. I think I paid $12 for the kit of 3 sockets. Not gonna lie, I returned them after I put my steering wheel on. They came in a package that allowed me to do this. Sure it was scummy, but I don't think I'll ever use those again. not unless my steering wheel needs to come off.

Terrible sentiment to have. For $12 keep them. Plenty of triple squares on Audis.

I for one love buying tools, or at least did until I acquired everything I needed. Consider it an investment.

Yeah I usually keep em. It was just that I was going back to drop something else off and figured I'd get rid of them. That and I'm not a fan of off brand tools. I'll order some legit ones when I need them again.

Same here. I have mechanic quality tools even though I am just a home wrench.

I spend a lot of time at my buddy's diesel shop and using his tools versus shitty ones makes a large difference. Plus, they don't really lose much value so you can always get almost what you put into them

Same here, I picked up a used set of Matco brand on eBay just under a C note.

To the OP, there is a nice stubby impact set on Amazon also. I got that set and have tried to break it to no avail yet, def not the cheapest you can find but from a reputable company and lifetime warranty.

I bought a set of OEM brand triple square sockets from Auto Zone for around $12 like sjorge. I've used them at least 10 times by now, probably more. $12 well spent.

I bought a set for like 10 bucks at AdvanceAuto. I haven't had to use them yet, but the way things keep breaking on this A4....it's only a matter of time until I need them.

I do a lot of shopping for tools at Harbor Freight or their website. Some of the stuff is pure junk, but I've had luck with most of their hand tools. I did break the 7MM socket I purchased from them doing my driveshaft, but they're good about returns usually.

That's a nice looking set. I got two smaller XZN bit sets from the same manufacturer, one long, the other short. I haven't used them yet, but they seem to be good quality.

My "kit" came with like 4 of the triple squares. I think M6, M8, M10 and M12. I've done my fair share of axles on these cars so they've definitely got put to the test. I like that yours is actually a kit though. Mine just kick around in a drawer in my toolbox.

Mac guy had these on special for $50 one day. They look good enough in my box to not care I rarely ever use them, which I guess is a good thing. Came in handy when I took apart the door on my b6 though

This is the set that I got:

I've only had to use them a few times, but these are much easier to use than the ones I used to have:

AST makes great tools, but two issues-

They cost an ass ton and (at least the bits) rust.
