    Changing the light switch?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Here goes my first post.
I have a 2007 avant quattro and in my car the light switch doesnt have the "auto" option.
If i understood correctly it just turns on the lights when you start the car and off when you shut it?
Can i change just the switch to get the auto option? The reason i want to do this is that in Finland we have to have our lights on all the time by law. And i dont want to put them on and off every time.

    Changing the light switch?

    No.
You must have a light sensor if i'm not wrong. It just start your lights when it's dark. But what headlights do you have?

So if the "Auto" Option is for light sensor?
So if anyone knows away for me to make changes so that i can leave the lights on, but when i turn off the car it will turn off the lights as well? That would work too. But then there is also the warning sound when you leave them on and open the door. I wonder if that comes from the switch or the actual lights.

You should hear the warning sound when you leave the lights on. If you don't, there may be something else going on. As far as getting the "Auto" function, I'm pretty sure it requires a specific sensor on the car because the lights turn on when it does not sense a certain amount of light. I may be wrong though.

There are headlights (xenon) with a drl function. These will turn on with the ignition.

I believe you may be able to recode your lights with vagcom .
As pointed out " autolights" simply turn on and off your lights automatically via a light sensor as it gets dark out and light out.
In VAG com I have read here you can program your lights to run drl ( daytime running lights ). I am not sure if the hardware is wired for DRL in finland but in vagcom reprogram your lights for "Canadian" and the drls should operate if they are equipped.
Do a search on this forum for vagcom coding options.

Or actually, i dont want DRL. I want all my lights to go on when i start the car so that when i switch them to high it will work without touching the light switch.
So what i would like to do is leave the light switch on, but so that when i shut the car down it would also turn off the lights.

I don't know how the wiring is for the cars sold in Finland.
But, I have been toying around the idea of retrofitting auto lights on my non auto, non xenon equipped car.

Just installing the switch with auto position and not toying with the wires will do what you are looking for (at least on mine it did). Essentially the headlights will always be ON when you start the car with the switch switch in Auto position.

Here is what I have retrofitted to my no package halogen car:
Bixenon projectors, Auto switch, CH/LH, DRL, LED DRL bulbs, Light sensor equipped auto dim compass interior from B6 and autodim exterior mirrors, coded the car for xenons, DRL, light sensor.

Results: DRL works as factory (ON when main beams are OFF plus can be turned off via switch). CH/LH works all the time (can be turned OFF via switch, it should work only when its dark), Headlight switch in Auto position keeps the headlight ON all the time even when car is off (this is because I played around with the wiring to get the auto lights working with light sensor), Auto dim mirrors work all the time (it should not dim when on reverse).

Verdict: There is something I need to do with light sensor to get it working as factory intended.

In case of what OP wants to achieve, that is lights ON all the time when car is ON, just install a switch with AUTO position you will be fine. I don't like it because I prefer DRLs at the day time and don't want to run xenons all the time.

Thanks for this. I will search for the switch and try it.

Thats called Flash to Pass and it should be active always, even with the light switch set to off I believe.
