    Hey guys

I was looking for either a test pipe or HFC due to my cat potentially being shot.
Do I need a tune to run either one?

I know I could use one for more gains.

Will either one kill the engine?

I know you don't need a tune to run them, though they give you (slightly) more gains if you do get a tune afaik. As for hurting your engine, I've never heard of that happening and plenty guys around here run both setups, so I think you'll be fine!

    Complex Answer

    Yes and no.
No, you don't need a tune, you will be fine and your engine will be fine, BUT you will have a check engine light for your second O2 sensor.
Now, the second O2 sensor just tells the car how efficient your catalyst is, it does NOT change your A/F mixture or anything else.

You can get rid of the CEL in one of three ways.
    1. get a spacer to hopefully move the O2 sensor out of the stream enough to trick it. Mixed results
    2. get a spacer with catalyst in it to move the O2 sensor out of the stream and have some catalyst to trick it. Better results than 1, but still mixed.
    3. get a "stage 2" tune which is the same as a stage 1, but codes out the O2 sensor so you never have a CEL. Works 100% and has the benefit of the extra power of a stage 1 tune.

    Thanks guys

I was reading a lot of mixed info.

What about the performance of the car?
Any ill effects. Ie running like crap, etc

Nope. Here is what I observed:

    1. Faster turbo spool
    2. Louder exhaust (maybe due to my exhaust leak)
    3. MOAR POWAA! (jk I did not notice a difference with just the test pipe except the faster spool but is needed for my stage 2 JHM tune (when 93 is released).

#3 is not true with a JHM tune. I am Stage 2 and have a CEL pop up regularly for my 2nd O2 sensor. Otherwise I agree with Stubek on these points.

keep in mind that eliminating the cat is a violation of federal and probably TX state law. You would become a polluting outlaw!!!!

Would a HFC require a spacer?

I have stage 2 and a 02 spacer for the rear and it does the trick. No CEL ever. I was stage 1 with the spacer as well and no CEL ever.
