    power steering with 4.2 swap

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so i swapped a 4.2 into 01 a4. ever since doing so my power steering has whined like its low on fluid. i changed pretty much everything pump, rack, pressure line, fluid reservoir, none pressure lines, steering fluid several times. (stock and CH11s fluid)
any suggestions on what might be going on? have it apart right now and want to try to resolve it for the last time.

What high pressure line did you use?

The A4 1.8T high pressure line should have a built-in restrictor. If it doesn't, the fluid will froth excessively, resulting in air bubbles. This will cause the vane pump to pump mostly air, resulting in a constant whining.

i will have to check it tomorrow. that sounds exactly like whats happening. will the 4.2 line be whats required? i have a parts car i cant get one from.
will a banjo bolt with a restrictor work at the pump be a option?

The in-line restrictor looks like a crimped section of the high-pressure line. Make sure whichever line you use has one.

The damped banjo bolt is usually at the rack end of the high-pressure line.
