    Funny PCV Valve Story

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
During the summer of last year, I had replaced my original Audi PCV Valve with a generic non-branded (apparently OEM according to the listing) PCV Valve from eEuroParts for $30. A couple of months later, the timing belt had to be replaced. And for several months, I would hear a whine from the engine bay...wasn't sure where the sound was coming from, but thought it was the sepertine belt tensioner. The sound was very occasional, hit or miss. After months of "phone tag" (metaphor), I eventually found the source of the obnoxious sound and realized the cheap PCV Valve wasn't working efficiently.

There was nothing wrong with my original PCV Valve (which goes for over $120 brand new on AudiUSAParts.com). I only replaced as part of preventive maintenance. I reinstalled the old valve, and voila! The sound is gone. Its been several days, and all seems to be working well, also, engine bay is a lot quieter now. I just had to share my experience here.

As the mantra goes, "You get what you pay for,"

    *Also,
I'm still going to warranty the part, but have no intention of installing it. If anybody wants to buy the replacement, can pay me 1/2 price (free shipping included), PM me if you're interested. However, I wouldn't recommend the generic shabby parts. Buy the real thing and move on.*

Glad you found it! It's a fine line between getting away with generic or having issues. Some generic is great, others suck, hard to know! Also a fine line between preventative maintenance vs not fixing what isn't broken.

The world of owning an old, very engineered car.

Also, you never posted up pics of your renovated garage!

My Avant is near 153,000 miles and as it gets older (and perhaps wiser), it demands more attention, haha
I'm pretty sure it can handle a coast-to-coast road trip though.

Nobody PM'ed me offers for the PCV Valve. This story is pretty self-explanatory, lol.
