How could something this simple be troubling? Rear Windshield Wipers (Won't Budge)

I'm trying to replace my rear windshield wipers as my current ones leave a nasty streak. Apparently, the current wipers are not Bosch, Valeo, or any other OEM, they're from a company called "Mighty"

I purchased Valeo from Europaparts for less than $10.

I'm trying remove the old rear wipers by releasing the mechanism as per the Owner's Manual instructions, but the wiper just won't budge. There's a piece of plastic I'm apparently suppose to press while the wiper is perpendicular to the motor shaft, then pull the wiper towards the rear windshield. Am I doing something wrong? It's kinda' silly for something as simple as this. Perhaps, I've over interpreting what the manual says The Audi Q7 has a much simpler release mechanism which is quite ironic.

    This is on a C5 3.0L Avant '04

You should have a "J Hook" type of wiper arm for the rear. Just look at the bend and you will want to pull the old wiper opposite of the bending "J", you may have to flip the wiper to the other side to do this. The plastic connector can get tight over the years and just requires a little force sometimes to slide off. Just be careful not to put too much pressure on the connecting arm or you could bend it.

The connecting arm is what concerned me. I was originally thinking about removing the connecting arm and working from there. I even noticed the cap (which prevents rust build-up on the nut) was missing. I was lucky to find a spare on eBay for less than $10.

I'll follow your steps and follow-up here, hopefully nothing snaps. Thank you
