How to tell if a car has an upgraded ECU?

Is there any way to tell if a particular 2.7t ECU has been chipped without running the car? Been at the local pick n pull and there's 4 2.7ts and I am curious if any of the vendors identify if their ECU upgrade somewhere on the vehicle or on the ECU?

If you pull the ecu out and open it, some have different eprom on it and you will notice it. Some have labels on the case, some just have some marker writings and some have nothing at all. Only way to tell for sure is to apply power to it and read the content with nefmoto and compare to a stock rom image.
