It's simply mirroring. If you get an android head unit, it can be done.

It's not just mirroring, it's controlling the phone too there's not many things that do this with full functionality. I can mirror my phone to my tv, but not control it with my tv (I mean yeah Apple TV play pause fast forward rewind that's it) same for any head unit with an hdmi input or video input.

I can't find anything on it really seams it was posted 2 years ago

I have a pioneer app radio3 sph-da210 that I use to mirror and control my android phone with mhl connector, the MHL of course does the video out and the screen control is done via Bluetooth. I don't know if it can do the same with an iPhone without jailbreaking though.

I was just wondering this morning if anyone else was using an AppRadio on this forum. I use an AppRadio2 + Chromecast to mirror my Nexus 6 to my radio. I love it. I couldn't live without it any more. I used to use an MHL adaptor, but the charging rates were too slow when streaming music+using GPS apps. Sound quality dropped getting rid of the MHL adaptor, but most manufactures are dropping MHL support from their USB port anyway. I need to look over my grounds and power wires though, as I am getting some interference through the speakers that moves with the speed of the engine. I even have a capacity box built to fix this, but its not helping.

This is a good time to ditch your iPhone for an Android. Not to mention everyone knows theres more functionality with Androids, but I'll leave that smack talk for another forum

Yes it is. It's called mirrorlink and it doesn't work on your TV, because you TV doesn't have a capacitive touchscreen or CPU that can do it ,but these android headunits do.

And you need an app to "hand off" the touch inputs. Chromecast and Mirrolink cannot do this on their own. I use AppRadio Reloaded ($30) and its worth every penny. This app controls the negotiation between mirroring device(chromecast or miracast), the radio and the phone. It totally not a simple plug and play setup.

For the Pioneer AppRadio is recommended to use the Pioneer brand one. I can totally sell you the mhl portion as i don't use it anymore. You'd just need the power box it plugs into. I may have the iOS cables laying somewhere. Not sure though

I have an AppRadio3, rooted my phone (to enable hot spot and control phone via Bluetooth), purchased AppRadio Unchained. I can control my whole phone via the head unit through a Chromecast. Easiest install I did with parts from enfig.

So, your chromecast plugs in through usb or hdmi to head unit and phone plugs in to chromecast? ? Care to share more details?

I have the AppRadio 3 installed with a USB and HDMI cable running into my glovebox which connect to the Chromecast.

You then need an active WiFi spot for the ChromeCast to mirror your display to the head unit. Sprint wants an extra 30 dollars a month for this, I refuse to pay that, so I Rooted my phone and enabled it. (My phone now acts as the hotspot)
AppRadio Unchained connects via BlueTooth and also requires Root, so you can control the phone from the head unit via the touchscreen.

You can also install Tasker to perform automatic functions like connect to WiFi, start AppRadio, turn the bluetooth on/off.

My whole setup is wireless minus the HDMI and USB cable from the head unit. I also used Enfig adapters, so the whole head unit install was pretty much plug and play.

I installed remote starter in my wife's Subaru and Kenwood setup in my G35. The setup I have in my Audi was the easiest I've ever done and took about an hour or two.

I might install remote starter in my Audi and G35; I defintely want to put the same AppRadio setup in my G35, but budget constraints you know?

I think i understand your setup, just a question to clear things up... my head unit needs a hdmi input right?

If you're going to the route I went then yes. I think the AppRadio2+ all have HDMI inputs you also need to provide power to the Chromecast. You can do that with a USB input.
