    2014 A4 AWE Exhaust / APR Tune

Exhaust help from those who have taken the plunge... I have a 2014 A4 (manual / Quattro). I have already done the APR Stage 1. I'm ready to go further down the rabbit hole of modifications and get an exhaust. AWE seems to keep coming up so I think I'm going to go that route. I was told that you have to have an after market down pipe in conjunction with an exhaust to get an APR stage 2 flash. Is that accurate? Should I just get the AWE Touring edition exhaust with my existing APR Stage 1 download? Or, do I "need" the down pipe with the exhaust to benefit from the stage 2?

Yes I've already searched forums and I've chatted with AWE and online dealers. Anybody with a similar set up and real world experience is very very much appreciated.

    Thanks!!

Do you want an exhaust because you want an exhaust? Or do you want to go stage 2 and think you need an exhaust?

All you need for stage 2 is HFC or test pipe.

High Flow cat or a test pipe is required for stage 2. The AWE exhaust itself won't give you many gains, just good sound.

IMO, you should just go for stage 2, it is a day and night difference!

I want an exhaust so I get the sound I'm after. If I can get some added performance for a little bit more then I'd definitely entertain it!

Do you want a car that sounds like it wants to take a shit but can't, then get a free flowing catback to go with that hfc or tp.

Do a full turbo back exhaust and stg2. You'll be happy and not wanting more...

A guy at APR just told me this, " A downpipe will usually consist of a high flow cat/test pipe. The high flow cat/test pipe is part of the downpipe.". Does that seem incorrect to anybody else?

Most of the tuners sell the HFC/test pipe only for our cars. Then there are some midpipes available that replace the resonator behind the cat. But APR and some of the other tuners have/had the HFC and midpipes as one package.

Most other exhaust systems don't do the above, they're just the pipe after the flex section and downpipe section, using everything stock above. With any exhaust system like that, you can't go stage 2.

What you can get is, from a variety of other manufacturers, for our platform, a test-pipe or better yet a high flow HFC, which replaces the catalytic converter pipe in the graph above, then use stock pipe, and exhaust from any other manufacturer that is not turbo-back.

Certainly, APR, and perhaps some other companies, offer the complete package; everything back from the turbo; ie entire pipe.

Super good explanation. Thank you very much. I guess I need to decide if I want to do a high flow HFC and get a stage 2. Or, just do a catback and continue to enjoy my stage 1 with a better audible experience. I don't think I can pull the trigger on doing the entire thing right now.
