Hey all, just wondering if anyone has experience going to Audifest at Mid-Ohio this summer. I might plan on attending this year...never been to a track day and would be considered a beginner. I saw that they offer beginner's class Friday, then track Sat/Sunday. Any suggestions/recommendations for a newb?

The AudiFest at Mid-Ohio that is run by the Ohio Valley Chapter of Audi Club North America is a great event. This is popular for track junkies and new people alike.

For Audi owners who are new to road track high performance driving, you can rest assured that you will be in very good hands. You will be placed into a Beginner's group. All participants in this group will undergo classroom and practical driving skills that are meant to help you better understand the dynamics of your car, how to be more observant to your surroundings, and how to navigate the track. The practical skills are done using your own car in a safe environment so you can learn about the behavior of your can (brake threshold control, slalom control, etc.). There is one skill that will be taught using a special skid car to help you learn how to maintain control should your car loose traction. These are all very valuable safety skills that you can also use to be a better driver out on public roads.

After going through the driver's school (taught by professional drivers employed by Mid-Ohio), you will have your own personal instructor who will be with you for each session out on the track. They will coach you and guide you to learn how to set up your car as you approach a turn, when to brake, when to turn, and when to get on the gas. They will look out for you for other cars on the track with you and let you know when to signal for others behind you to pass or when to pass a slower car in front of you (only when they signal and your instructor says so). This is not a race, so you're not trying to qualify every time you're out there. It's about learning how to drive in a high performance environment.

You'll learn and appreciate what your car can do and work on your own driving skills (which will make you better on the road too). The goal it to enjoy high performance driving safely. Don't feel pressured to go beyond what you are comfortable in doing. It's very typical that the driver's limits will be reached far sooner than the limits of the car. Working with your instructor, you'll learn the basic mechanics of high performance driving. As time goes on and you improve on these skills, the speed will naturally improve. You'll learn about weight transfer, throttle steering, proper gear selection (and when to shift), and how to keep on top of the vitals on your car (brake fade, oil temp, etc.).

Mid-Ohio is a nationally known road course that is one of the most technically challenging courses. It was the former home of the SCCA Nationals before it moved to it's current location. There are still many races held here, and the track is very well maintained.

I participated in AudiFest last year and I was impressed - it is a very well run event. I had so much fun that I've signed up again this year.

It was only my 2nd track day and my instructor was excellent at making sure I was having fun, keeping me safe, and pushing me to improve. I recommend doing the track walk they offer. it gave me an opportunity to see the track from a different vantage point where they pointed out the best lines, features and dangers - plus it was cool just to have the experience of walking midohio from the track (we actually drove and would get out at different locations to walk and discuss the track). It was hot. So sunscreen and shade are important. Bring lots of water and snacks. Also, bring some common items / tools like a good tire gauge, torque wrench with socket for your wheels(check lugs are tight between sessions). I also brought a bunch of wrenches, sockets, cleaning products (keep the windshield clean between sessions).

if this is your first track day, they will want you to sign up for the TMOS on Friday - which is a instructor lead group training session where they teach you a bunch of driving skills to prep you for the track day. my daughter took it last year (I got to ride along with her) and had a good time. She had just turned 16 and really got into the training. You don't go on the regular track Friday, but they have a mini-track setup to practice running around.

This is a big event and there are some serious dedicated track folks attending. so many cool cars - quite a few of them track prepped. this is not just an Audi car weekend - last year there was a heavy contingent of Porsche 911's & Cayman's.

looking forward to seeing anyone out there. I rented a garage - I have a Daytona Grey RS4. My wife & daughter are going as well, they will be sharing a Carbon Steel Grey VW GTI for the weekend. This will be their first time on the track.

Thanks for posting Audifest 2016! I look forward to running the event and meeting some local Audi enthusiests! I have run a handful of track days at M/O and am booked for the PGH track in May. Does anyone know how long the sessions are or how may sessions run in a day?

Each session runs approximately 20-30 minutes and about 5 sessions per day. You'll also get some class time with local instructors from Mid Ohio to gain some finer points to help you get better/safer.

Those are the two best ways to reach him. He's likely very busy during tax season (accounting), but he should get back to you.

Cool, but the email bounces? Does he have another or is something misspelled?

Maybe someone else can answer the following questions?

    1. Does $400 cover 2 days of track time?
    2. Can people sign up if they own another make? (my friend owns a 435ix)
    3. How much classroom is involved for those with prior track experience?

    Thanks in advance!

Great, I have the form, just wanted to know how much classroom? 1 hour? I am used to Autointerest, we are on the track all day, from 9-5, except lunch.

For those who have track experience and not participating in the Driving School for beginners, it's basically one track session's time (20 minutes to maybe 40 minutes) to have one of the professionals at Mid Ohio go over some fine points and answer questions. They typically have the class set up for each run group separately to give enough time and not interfere with the rest of the run times for your group for the day.

All makes are welcome at the event. They must be a member of Audi Club of North America to participate.

Wow, lots of interest here. Very cool!

I've gone to Audifest the last two years and had a blast. Very well put on and the track is incredible. I think they do a great job of keeping the run groups small compared to some other events I've done at MO. If you have the opportunity, try and get there early one day to walk the track. It's pretty surreal to see the topography when you aren't flying by at 90 mph. I've done 4 tracks in the area and MO is my favorite. Grattan is also great but MO is a real gem.

I saw Craig last month at the Audi Grattan event, and he mentioned Audifest was already 75% full, so make sure you get your applications in asap!

Can you explain how much time we have on the track/classroom per day for this event? Exactly how many sessions will we get in during 1 day? Thanks!

You should get around 5 20-30 minute sessions each day. That's plenty of track time on this highly demanding technical road course.
