    Strong engine smells when stationary

I've read a few post where this is an issue, but nothing that relates to my model. I've tried to filter the guff from the relevant info but I'm not familiar at all with the audi. I've got an A4 B6 2.0 sport (alt engine).

Problem: Strong exhaust/engine fumes coming into the cabin when stationary. When I move off again, the smell goes.

What can be causing this? I'm going to go through the possible issues this week. I've done a bit of research and it could possibly be a leak in the Evaporative emission control system, or something not sealing right in the plenum chamber? Am I going in the right direction?

Never heard of the PVC System till now. Basically breather hoses by the engine, after some research. Thanks redline, I'll look into it more.

Your valve cover is probably bad and leaking (possibly caused by a clogged PCV system), allowing oil to run down the side/back of your engine and drip onto the hot exhaust manifold and/or pipe.

While stationary the smoke and fumes are rising up against the firewall and into your cabin. When you're moving the airflow makes it unnoticeable.

Yep, correct. Got some pics as well. I need to look more into this (loads of threads, but need to work out what is relevant to my 2.0 ALT).

Here, this breather tube wasn't in properly and had a bit of give.

But, would that cause oil to be collected here?
