    RS7 startup exhaust noise

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Whenever I start up the RS7 with the sport exhaust, it has the exhaust flaps open for about 30 seconds or so (for cold starts specifically). This makes the startup pretty loud, but then it gets very quiet once the flaps are closed. I like the sound but it can be rather loud at 6am and my wife (and probably neighbors) don't like it. I've tried comfort mode and individual mode with normal exhaust tone but it doesn't make a difference. Is there any way to force it to start with the flaps closed, like via VAGCOM or something?

I love the sound (I'm sure WE all do), but my wife accused me the other day of showing off in front of people. I'm like babe, I just started the car... that's what it does. Ha

Can't help you, just sharing :)

Haha, yeah, there are certain conditions with warm starts where it sounds freakin' awesome, but perhaps could be misconstrued as showing off by some :)

It is not possible to disable via VAGCOM. An ECU mod is required. APR has this built into tunes for other vehicles (I believe B8?), so our best bet is hoping they include the feature with the stage II file. I made the request but I haven't heard back yet.

Interesting - well I guess I'll wait and see when their stage II file comes out and shoot them an email. Thanks!!

The S7 does the same on cold startup. I like it and wish I could keep it that way! My Mercedes GL550 did the same on cold start. Only time you could hear it was a V8 under there!

It's by design for the flap to open on cold start so not much you can do about it.

    LOL!!

I sure as hell hope they dont take that away with the stage 2 tune. Our 1 year old doesn't seem to wake up when I start the car so I'm not in trouble.

    Hehe, great response.

I doubt they would take it away with a tune. Maybe it would be an option that you could program with the stalk or through their app.

I don't think it's the exhaust valves. It's more to do with the engine revs and the amount of fuel they are putting in to the engine, at startup. Evidently they fire the injectors 3 time on each inlet stroke, when the engine is cold, but once the engine drops back to 600rpm (and they only inject twice per inlet cycle), the exhaust becomes much quieter. Ultimately, when the engine warms up, they only inject once per inlet cycle. That's my understanding anyway.

No. It's the exhaust valves, and it sounds awesome

I don't think so. Awesome it may sound, but my S6 doesn't close the valves at all while it's stationary and I don't think the RS7 is any different.

You need to take a closer look then, because standing in back of my car on startup I can hear the valves shut, and exhaust smoke that comes out of the tailpipe dramatically decreases.
