Before I get flamed yes I have done my research and reading. I am posting this because I couldn't find a definitive answer. Does this code always mean the manifold needs to be replaced?! Is there a separate part for the IMRC motor that can be replaced to fix this? I didn't get any other codes along with this one.

The car really doesn't idle or run poorly or feel like there is a lack in performance. The code popped up under hard acceleration on the interstate. Should I try clearing it and see if it comes up again before worrying that I need to replace parts?

Also, the air filter hasn't been replaced in a while (I know shame on me but I can't remember the last time it was replaced. maybe 35-40k miles ago). I know this is probably a long shot but is there any way that this could cause this code to pop up due to restricted airflow and not an actual issue with the manifold or actuator motor?

Car is an 09 with 97K miles.

Thank you this is what I have read already about this issue.

But this doesnt answer my question. Without any sign of power loss or poor idle is this definitely a problem that warrants replacing the motor or whole manifold, or could it be something intermittent or even possibly caused by inadequate air flow due to a clogged filter?

I may dig into it more tonight to see if I can see or feel any obvious vacuum leaks that may be caused by this, but as I said the car isn't running poorly like there is a vacuum leak or unmetered air being pulled in.

Does our car use the same motor actuator (V157) as the TDI Jettas?

    Found this interesting:

Gonna check this out tonight and see if it could be something as simple as this.
