Purchased my first Audi, 2007 A6 Avant Quattro, 3.0 TDI Tip, what do I need to do?

Hi there, I just moved from Seattle to Luxembourg for a few years, my job offered me the opportunity and I jumped on it. We sold our 2013 Forester and our 2014 Focus and started to look for a car over here. After a bit of searching and a somewhat scary process of trying to buy a car where no one spoke english, I think we have more or less settled on our new ride.

    2007 Audi A6 Avant Quattro
    3.0 TDI V6 Tiptronnic 171 kW
    129,000 KM 16,000 Euro

We should have spent a lot more time looking for a car but time was short and we wanted something with AWD for trips to the alps, there was not a ton available in our price range in Luxembourg itself so we bought this one... without even a test drive. We are going to have the local version of AAA do a check of the car, and the dealer is paying for the control technique so it's at least roadworthy. But what I wanted to ask here is if I should be worried and what should I look for?

Thankfully being on the German border there are a ton of German mechanics and people here seem to baby their cars (dealer/garage maintenance for everything) so hopefully this won't be so bad. The km are relatively low for a car of this age and it seemed in good condition. It needs a good detail (they apparently don't always clean their used cars here at dealers?) but seems like it will work well for the family and I. Unfortunately due to it's rather heavy on the CO2 output engine we are going to have to pay a quite high registration fee (think 400 euro) annually and insurance is likewise high, but hopefully it's all worth when we are cruising down the autobahn on our way to tour Europe.

Thoughts? Am I screwed? Anything to worry about this model year or engine?

    Thanks for any help!

    -Brad

EDIT* I forgot to mention that it does come with a 12 month guarantee. Not sure what exactly it covers, I was told, in very broken english, "parts and car". So... yeah.

Congrats on the opportunity to live abroad for a period of time. Based on what you have written, I don't see any indication the you are "screwed". I have been on this forum for a long time and have heard nothing about issues with the 3.0 TDI motor. Granted, they were not available in the US so information is limited. Fortunately, this forum has a worldwide following and there are several members on here that live in the Euro zone and have cars with these motors. I am sure they will contribute here and help you with any questions you may have.

Thats good, thanks for the vote of confidence. Given the fairly low km for the age and the location, I'm really hoping it was well taken care of and that I can get 3-4 years of good use out of it before I move back. I am a little worried about maintenanc, my budget is somewhat constrained and if this is going to cost me 2k a year to maintain that could be a problem, but I guess I should have thought about that before buying an older performance car.

Hi there. I bought my audi(3.0tdi avant quatro 2008 model) almost 6 month ago. Most people complain for the expensive cost for maintenance. I make comparison from my previous car which was a 2002 volvo v70 diesel. For me the costs are almost the same. For the past 6 months i have change several parts on my car (i don't include oils and filters). I have change inner cv join for about 70 euro. change two pads. One for the motor and one for the gearbox which were around 350 euro. there are few more small thing for 20-30 euros i have done. About the engine and gearbox oils and filters around 300 euro or more i don't remember exactly. If you include tires and rims prepare with more money. My car came with 19" wheels. But i decided to buy a winter set. I took 17" rims and tires for around 750 euro(rims second hand original and brand new tires). Now i am buying new summer tires which are around 750 euro. So far this are the costs in my case.
