Anyone incorporate the Start button into our B6/B7 S4/RS4? I do missed the Start button in my 06 Touring 6-spd (Avant equivalent in the dark world)

It's kind of useless, since you still have to put in a key... I guess just for coolness points

I'm not sure how many coolness points you get for adding an unusable button - it's like having hubcaps that look like you have rims

Those are useful though since they cover an ugly metal hub/wheel.

It would be more like having a fuel door on an electric car or an ashtray on a motorcycle......

So make it usable. The car is already chipped to the point where you would not need to use the ignition. Just wire a relay to actuate the ignition to KON-EOFF when it sees the security key and the fuel pumps gets a key. After that all you need to do (assuming the engine on is a two way switch) is wire the engine on button to the starter relay, and the second position to a hard car off.

Its a lot but not impossible. The newer engine start configs you see on cars now is no more than different programming with the same hardware you already have. Hell i could write the programming and have a rasberrypi control all of it.

this also means the start button will be closer to the passenger side since this is from a RHD console lol

Regardless of LHD and RHD, the start button is always closer to the passenger side.

You'd still need a key to unlock the steering mechanism.

That is the European base radio. It is a single DIN radio for the 2006's only I believe.

It's been done, but it should be noted that you still have to have the key in the ignition and it turned over to on before you can press the button.

I have always wanted to know what the Euro experience was with this in place? If you were say unfamiliar with the original Euro-Spec RS4 - and you got into the car and didn't know about this button - would the car start or would you get some kind of message on the display that instructed you to press the START button? I'm interested in doing this mod - but I want to know what the original User Experience was. Also this mod costs you 2 cup holders in a car that already doesn't have much space to put "things" - besides morning coffee, I store little stuff in those cavities often.
