1998 B5 A4 2.8L 5-speed
I just bought a B6 A4 and I'm selling my old one. I've only had it for almost a year and have done repairs to it. There's NO CEL (check engine light) on. The previous owner told me the timing belt/water pump was done at 130K but could not provide records showing that. When I assisted my mechanic with the repairs below done we were able to check out the condition of the timing belt and it looked like it was in fair condition and the water pump looked fairly new. So I imagine he was probably right. I'm a bit negotiable on the price and willing to meet north of 8 mile lol.
Repairs done:
Front calipers
Front rotors
Front pads
Valve cover gaskets
Cam chain tensioner gaskets
Cam caps
Replaced vacuum tubing set with newer from 2001 A4 with 90K
Replaced spark plug wires with newer 2001 A4 with 90K
Pros:
2.8 runs strong, even on severly cold starts
Clutch grabs well seems to have plenty of life
Interior is immaculate for the age
These engine gasket repairs were done to stop the oil leaks, the only 2 repairs I have not done yet to stop the leaks are the engine temp sensor on the right of the crankshaft and the oil pan gasket.
Cons:
Rear suspension needs work
Rear tires are bald from rear suspension needing alignment
Right CV boot
Pass front control arm
You can immediately start driving this car but I'd suggest at least getting work done on the rear suspension and some replacement tires. This can be a steal for someone who wants a dependable DD and can find cheap labor.
