Question If I getting a Stage 2 tune... Do I need..

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm getting the Stage 2 United Motors tune soon, that requires bigger injectors 440cc, and a vr6 obd2 3" MAF. On the website it says I can use either ko3 (stock) or a ko4. Does anyone think that is a bit over kill on the stock turbo? Will that cause any problems? Has anyone used the Stage 2 tune from UM on their car AEB? Mine is a 99.5 AEB with the stock turbo at 128k.
I just don't want to upgrade just yet (financially).

What are other things I should look out for when getting a stage 2 tune, maintenance/performance wise?

I did new spark plugs when I got my stage 2 kompresd tune. Not really sure if it's needed but it was only a couple bucks. You may need a new clutch. Mine slipped as soon as I got tuned, depends how you drive though. As far as maintenance, do everything that's needed before you tune or add performance parts. These cars are great, but you need to maintain them.

its way overkill for that stock turbo but you have room for improvement...but not much.
FWIW...get a stage 1 tune for cheap (they are usually around 150 used...i might even have one) and then go with the UM stage 3 at some point coupled with a frankenturbo, clutch and intercooler.

How much power are you expecting to get from the UM stage 2? A Reflect Tuning (K0mpressed) tune will get you to 200bhp , and so will a number or second hand tuned ECUs all for around half the cost of that UM tune (before you buy injectors and a VR6 MAF needed for the UM).

I always thought the kompresd stage 2 tune reflects the uni stage 2 tune at 230/260 hp/tq

I would recommend reflect tunings stage I it runs18 psi. Feels way better then my APR stage I and it's plug and play no messing with injectors of maf.

I'm wanting to beat my cousins mk4 wolfsburg jetta that is a stage 2 GIAC, and he's pushing about 230 hp!

At that same time, this is my daily driver (not far distances), And I want to be assured of the reliability of a stage 2 tune last a long time - I want to know what I should upgrade to support this.

I also already bought the VR6 OEM Bosch MAF and the Injectors (green giant genuine bosch injectors)

My set up is a Frankenturbo exhaust manifold. Gutted cat. Full 3in cat back exhaust. AWE DV. K&N drop in filter. kompresd says the tune I have maxes out the stock turbo. 034 Street density motor, trans and rear diff carrier mounts. Solid shifter linkage and Delrin bushing. Silicon turbo inlet pipe. When I go frankenturbo I'll pick up injectors and a MAF housing. Prolly a FMIC as well. And your going to have trouble catching that Jetta. They have much less drivetrain loss. They are lighter and you'll be right around the same HP. But I hope you do.

You may be thinking of Unitronic (Uni). But I'm saying United motorsport (UM) and I'd be pushing 270 to the crank awhp if I ended up getting the frankenturbo f21 and after installing the MAF and Injectors. Just not sure how much power i'll be pushing with a ko3 on a stage 2, but I think i'd be maxing it out, anyone can put there input in, I'm not entirely sure.

I already bought the Maf and injectors. Why would you shy away from United Motors?

You will beable to run 87oct after it pops ;) But really it depends what fails. if the wastegate pops off you can still drive that around, my 97 was daily driven without one for awile. but if the bearings fail then its gonna leak oil and that's a problem. That would require the car to be parked and repaired.
