Power steering. loss of power steering

    So i have a 13 q5 2.0.

All of a sudden the powers steering got really heavy. And yet drivable.

Basic symtoms (*) from straight it will turn about 5 degrees both side without much problem. But after that it gets really heavy needing to use two arm force to maneuver.

I was lowered on hnr springs and had flat bottom steering. Which non should really be the culprit. But had to take the springs off and put Oem springs so the dealer wont deny coverage.

The dealer will take a look tomoro and let me know but any of u had similar problems?

If i hadnt replaced the oem springs they would most likely deny coverage right?

I've had mine make some noise a time or two after it was pretty warm when turning- sort of like low fluid on a 'normal' PS setup. No failure yet.

Mines havent made any noise nor previous signs. And according to my spring installer he said it was the whole rack and pinion...

Waiting on the verdict from the dealer.

    Will report back tomorro ...

This is the first time I have heard of this happening to the 2.0L Q5. Did you get a warning/alert/light on the dash?

Good Luck and please share your experience with the dealership.

Over on Audiworld.com there are a couple of posts regarding a recall for 2014-2015 SQ5 power steering failures but this is the first time I am hearing about a problem on Q5's. More info here: http://www.thecarconnection.com/news...power-steering

Did you get any warning messages on the dash?

I have seen that on the sq5s from previous posts but if i remeber correctly it wasnt much drivable? Cuz i seen them post pics of getting it towed.

In my case it acted as if there was half or 1/4 of a power there, weird feeling..

    Will keep em updated...

you may have regular normal power steering. I just looked up your car in Mitchell repair and it shows both electro mechanical as well as hydraulic.

Yes others have posted about the u-joint in the shaft or the slip joint getting tight and binding. I would just have to think you should feel it coming on, but....................

Yeah, I can certainly see those costs adding up. Personally, I've been waiting till I'm out of warranty or if VW is going to buy my Q5 TDI back. My situation is a bit different though, but you may want to wait a thousand miles or so to see how the repair holds up and then make a determination so you don't have to go through install and uninstall again if something was to happen with the repair between now and then... just in case.
