    black tail light retainer clip

Just came back from a trip and my passenger side tail light is no longer secured on the inboard side. According to my wife the friend we gave a lift to forced the trunk closed - which apparently put enough pressure on the assembly to break the black tail light retaining clip. I went to Rockville Audi, because I prefer not to do business with Audi of Arlington (in October they told me my front brakes were down to 4 mm and asked me if I wanted to have them replace the brakes... the car had about 42k miles, I said no. Still driving around on the brakes no problem and when I popped into PepBoys for an oil change last week, they said it looks like the brakes have about 15% remaining). Anyway, asked the guy for the part and he asked me for the vehicles VIN number... so I went out to the car, took of the tail light, brought it in and showed him what I needed to replace. He then suggested I go out and get the VIN number so he can be certain which replacement tail light needs to be ordered (400$).

I'm reticent to use duct tape on this (inside of course). Has anyone found a source for the clip? Should be a couple of dollars at most for the part.

    Thanks

    What year is your car?
Are you talking about an oil change?
Are you talking about the tail light clip?

Please separate the ideas so we can assist you better.

2012 Audi S4 - tail light clip - should be the same for B8 2009-2015 - probably other models as well.

It is the black U shaped retaining clip that holds the right (and I assume the left as well) inner part of the decklid portion of the tail light flush with the deck lid.

The following is written on the black clip:

    Hella
    >PA-6F30<
    167016-00

Maybe I need to search under Hella, looks like that could be the Slovakian manufacturer of the taillights.

Not haven't a lot of luck finding the clip online. May start looking for someone with a cracked taillight who needs to replace the assembly.

Clip probably costs 3 cents to produce.

Why wouldn't you tell him your Vin #? It is much easier for them to look up parts and assist you that way.

I brought in the part - it doesn't appear that they sell the item separately. I would think it should be pretty easy to look up a part when the part, full of part numbers, is in your hand.

Beyond that, this isn't a one off item, it's a taillight, same part for A4 and S4.
