Service reset - Vag Com, Carista and Schawben at ECS

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

In 5 days my A6 will have a service reminder come up. It's the 100k service and according to the Audi schedule only the diagnostic needs reading.

It's been a one owner car, always serviced and the oil was changed about a month ago.

I've read up on here a bit and obviously vag com is king but at a fair price.

Carista tell me they have this function at beta testing stage and sent me an invite to review. I wondered if anyone had tested this already?

Obviously the app is the budget option.

The unit at ECS is approx $200 and while it can be hooked up to a laptop, doesn't need to be.

Again, wondering if anyone has any experience of this unit?

Thanks in advance for any input.

I've done it in my A4, and the only issue I had was due to the fact that I am on an iPhone, and don't have the Carista dongle. iPhones require that the app use a wifi connection, while android phones use Bluetooth. The issue with the iPhone wifi connection is that the phone can't actually access the internet to complete the payment portion built into the beta. You don't, at least I didn't, actually get charged the $5.99, but it's built in to get an idea of how the actual user experience would go once it's released in the full version. My problem was getting my app to reconnect after disconnecting for the payment; it doesn't always reconnect, so it took a few tries for me, but Carista claims you would avoid that with their specific adapter. I haven't tried it, because I already had a $25 one from Amazon. Otherwise, the Carista app has served me very well. I've done all my vagcom mods with it, as well as it being a handy code reader/clearer that I can keep in my otherwise unused ash tray.

Thank you for this really comprehensive feedback. I'm inclined to give it a shot, and since I dont have a dongle, I'll go with the Carista as I'm also on a iPhone.

    Thanks again!!!

Thanks also for the links, one thing that surprises me a little is that it's been in beta testing for quite some time.

There were some issues with it at first and the support from the vendor was strong. The support has since faded off pretty bad. There were frequent updates before too but that's gone also.

I like Carista for the ease of use and portability. It's a great product but the support needs to come back.

Again, thank you!! I only had in mind the service reset function but, that was before I realised the wide range of settings you can customise!!

On a completely unrelated note, I note your garage 'contents' a 77 B!!

Nice, is it the chrome or plastic? I've had a couple over the years, and a MGC. I'm an import from the UK and a very old one at that, so I've had mucho cars of yesteryear, one of my favourite of that era was the Triumph 2.5PI

    Anyway, I digress, thanks again!!

I am extremely pleased with the Carista tool and software, certainly achieved all I was setting out to achieve at this stage.

I too am very pleased with Carista. Does anyone know if they will be adding the feature to turn off the exhaust note? Soundukator. I do not want to go the fuse route due to a CEL.

Just a quick update: the service reset feature in Carista has just been released officially. It's not in beta anymore, so anyone can access it. And if you had the Pro Package before, you have free access to the service reset now. If you didn't, then you can get a 1-week Pro pass for $9.99 that gives you access to all the features in the app (incl. customizations, diagnostics, service tools) or a yearly subscription at $39.99/year (again, for all features).

Very tempting. Guess the option of a discount for review or testing is gone huh. I mean really, a 1 week pass is all I need to set all the settings I want.

Well, I ended up paying for Carista app since I already had a cheap OBD2 Blutooth dongle and I was using the free torque app.
I'm impressed. It's pulling fault codes that the prev. obd2 scanner app and even an actually obd2 scanner isn't showing. My CEL isn't on but it def pulled
some fault codes. I'll end up making a thread for all the repairs and info on the app.

Just saw this old comment here. Did you end up posting a thread? Just checking, in case I've missed it :)
