    Coolant Temp Gauge not working.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Recently I have noticed that My coolant temp gauge sits at "C" or cold. It sits there most of the time while im driving and every now and then will bounce. The coolant light also appears constantly on my information display. Any ideas?
I recently replaced my cluster to a problem in the original. once it was replaced this started happening. Is the cluster just faulty or is it something else causing the problems above?

Do you have Vagcom? If you do you can do a calibration test on your gauges.

Change the green temp sensor behind the passenger head. There are two sensors inside the green sensor, one for the gauge cluster and the other to the ECU. Likely the gauge cluster one has failed. Pretty common occurrence.

^What Tim said, mine was erratic before the coolant temp sensor failed completely one day. New one in, no problems since. Make sure you get the OEM sensor only, no other brands.

Here ya go. Don't forget to get extra O-rings and plastic U clips (on the same page). I buy a few spares in case mine fail, or I drop one or something.

    THIS

DO NOT use the same plastic retainer clip thats currently on the car, always use a new one. They easily distort ever so slightly upon removal, and then can allow the new sensor to pop out... no bueno. (its not worth trying to save yourself 60 cents lol)

replacing the o-ring should be common sense as time and heat love to destroy those things haha

Anyone buy one of these from China? I'm having a hard time with$12 for the part and $40+US for shipping. I would rather buy 3 of these and have them fail after a few months then pay that much for shipping.

I do not recommend the non-OEM brands, just do it right and pay for shipping and never have to worry about it again for the rest of the time you own the car.

Call your local dealer and see what they want for it (PN 059919501A) I would STRONGLY discourage you from going the cheapest China route, as quality control will likely be non-existent. You may say you don't care now, but when the sensor blows out and dumps all your coolant near instantly, that $12 now doesn't seem like such a great idea while sitting on the side of the road. lol

I completely hear you, thats why I try to think off all the odds and ends I have been putting off and add them to the order to start making the shipping more manageable.

I agree, I'll try to find a better deal. but I've been dealing with this for 15 years (shipping to Canada) and it's not getting easier.

This method might make more sense. I do have a friend in Detroit who I ship things to, so maybe I can order a bunch of stuff and go pick it up.
