S4 B6 - Cylinder Ignition Angle Delay very high? Low power output

    Hi,

I went to get my V8 S4 remapped and some pre-checks were done. Turns out that my car has some issues with the 'Timing Retardation' in Cylinders 1-4 (mainly 2 and 3). I'm not good when it comes to engines so I was wondering if anyone can help. I was advised to change my spark plugs, fuel filter (Mann one) and to use Wynns injector cleaner. I normally run Shell V power but I've used Tesco 99 RON for about 200 miles now and can't feel any difference.
The previous owner had a map put on and had the top end rebuilt in March 2015. Some people have said maybe too much of the head was skimmed off?

Does anyone have any advice to give? The person doing the map is saying any time he does anything engine wise the ECU 'corrects' the Cylinder Ignition Angle Delay to 9.5 (and on a recent run 11.3!).

All pulls were done in 3rd gear from approx 1.5k RPM -> Redline. Audi S4_LOG was done when I went to get the map done, LOG-01xx was done after the spark plugs and fuel filter was changed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Attachments can be downloaded below, I don't have permission to attach to post:

Update after fuel filter change and injector cleaner put through car: The car is running around the same MPG as before but now you can smell the fuel burning much richer. Also there is a lot of unburnt fuel being pushed through the exhaust - when I look at the exhaust tips there is lots of fuel splatter around the inside edges (being pushed out but not burnt).

Work done on the engine in March 15:

I'd try to revert back to the stock tune, to see if the problem is tune related or hardware related

have you made any important changes/mods right before this problem started ??

He said he wasn't able to revert to the stock tune unfortunately

Sorry im not too sure, he mentioned ignition timing but it's related to the timing belt so could be? All I know is it's in block 020 and doing something that it shouldnt

And no it's felt the same since I bought the car last march

Looks like it is the ignition timing not cam timing

Sorry for multiple replies hopefully it meerges together I can't edit on my phone

I believe block 020 measures Cylinder Ignition Angle Delay

Thanks for confirming. Any ideas on next steps to take to fix this or at least reduce to an acceptable level?

have you had a compression test done ??
you talked about the previous owner removing material from the cylinder head(s),
your knock readings ( hence the retarded ignition timing numbers) may be caused by the compression being too high for the gas you're running ??

I highly doubt it , but you never know. . .

I haven't had a compression test done but I picked up the kit yesterday. I won't be able to do it probably til mid next week. Are there any other things to check or try?

Update: The car is running even richer now. Even on idle the smell is very strong. MPG around town with a light foot is around 11, and on A roads I'm getting a max of 19. There is lots of unburnt fuel coming out, kind of like condensation on a window (streaky petrol marks inside exhaust tip).

Any more help would be appreciated I'm running out of things to try.
