Headlight amber delete and Tail Light vinyl - Looks good to me!

Looking at some new 2016 models, I noticed the tail lights from the factory have been tinted. See below: -new S6, S7. They look great with a slighter darker tint to the tail lights. My GF laughed and said, what are you going to turn your S4 into a honda civic?

I jump on here and through my digging I come across grafixpressions and saw they have vinyls for my tail lights and offer amber delete vinyl's for headlights as well. The install was very easy and straight forward.. just like putting on a screen protector on an iphone. With some water and soap, you can move them around till they are where you want them.

The headlight vinyl is on the outside of the headlight and I was curious to see what a euro spec ecode would look like. To me it looks great...but having vinyls on your headlight... that's another story... You really can't tell unless you look closely, but for the price compared to ecodes... It's a fun way to change it up. Then again, you get what you pay for... I'm torn on if i'm going to leave these on forever.

The tail light is just a little strip that covers the clear reverse light area. It looks good, but I may get them fully tinted so all the red is a bit darker as well.

After 20 min. and less than $40 bucks, the results are pretty good! The vinyl was def a high quality and cut perfectly so thank you Grafixpressions!

Still have them if anybody wants them. I tinted the whole tail light and left the headlights alone for now.

Hm, might just be the lighting, but that tint on your headlights is really noticeable. Pulling apart the headlights and tinting the actual reflectors looks much nicer, IMO.

A little tint on the taillights looks good, just don't overdo it. There are a couple examples of people on here that have done it tastefully, forgot who it was though.

Since you tinted the entire taillight lens, I'm assuming the turn signal area is still relatively lighter, correct? Would you mind posting a photo showing the end result?

I like the idea of eliminating the clear turn signal section, but would probably only do it is the overlay color was identical to the rest of the red lens.

if you're crafty at all, taking the headlight apart is really easy, then you can black the amber out within using vinyl, plastidip, etc...

That looks good! Are all year (10-15) tails the same? I bought night shades and was going to spray tint mine, but this looks perfect and you can't fuck it up lol

Nope. Taillights are B8 (09-12) and then B8.5(13-16)

Sure did, you have to cut the handling tab off of it after mounting it. Make sure you have a sharp knife.

Rodger that! Did you feel like it's tinted enough using the gunsmoke? I'm on the fence between the gunsmoke and the smoked...just don't want it too dark and it's hard to tell in the pics on their site.

I want a light tint but the pictures on the Lamin-x website of the Gunsmoke look darker than I want (I want a subtle looks like it could be from factory look to avoid any hassle). Not sure if would look as good on the gray vs. your white. I will probably wait until I get my windows tinted next week and then decide.

Call me crazy- but I think I prefer that blacked out reflector over the ecode clear reflector in your application. And that's coming from a guy who has ecodes on his car and is considering going back to the USDM Amber corner version (ducks head, prepares for stones to be thrown)

Seriously tho, you have ecodes and want to switch back?? Blows my mind. Ive been impatiently waiting every day for my ecodes to arrive. Granted, I am probably the biggest ecode fanboy on this forum. Just search any of my posts in the S5 section lol... they started calling them deezcodes. I have a hatred for that little orange piece that goes beyond the realm of normal.

I'd be pretty happy if I could get my tails to look like the red S6 in this thread. I feel like Misano cars would really benefit from breaking up the rear a little. It's just a wall of red sometimes.

Haha yep I know it's way against the grain, but to my eyes it depends on the paint color of the car and the overall aesthetic. I'm not convinced that the clear corners look optimal on black or gray or maybe even dark blue s4's. Having a blacked out or solid silver reflector has some definition while the clear reflector can look vague and definition less. And on Daytona gray, I feel it makes the front end look a bit too monochromatic, whereas the amber side markers provided a little splash of color. But the light output of the ecodes is better than the USDM version, and function drumpfs form on this one so I won't be selling them any time soon, lest I get inundated with PMs.

Thank you. That looks great IMHO and probably what I will look at doing. Its just enough to take the cherry red out of the tails but not too much to get a hassle by cops or during inspections.

Thanks for the input and info on the 3m overlays fellas, but I opted to tint the lenses myself with VHT Night Shades so I could get it exactly the darkness I want (not too dark, not too light). I cleaned and prepped the tails perfectly and hit them with 5 light coats a few minutes apart. Then I let it cure for 24 hours before driving it. Turned out perfect for $12 and a little effort

i was just thinking of ordering some yellow lamin x for the fog lights as my hoen h8 bulbs are not quite yellow enough for me...or maybe not bright enough? would it look bad to have yellow bulbs and yellow tint over the fogs?

Yea it looks pretty dark in the pic, but it still has red hue to it in the light. It was rainy/cloudy when I took the pic. Thanks brotha! I've done it on my caddy so I figured why not. Hers a pic with the headlights switched on...
